Mysterious PS4 "Wireless Adapter" Certified

Sony has certified a "wireless adapter" with the Federal Communications Commission, indicating it may be planning to release a new peripheral for the PlayStation 4.

As spotted by DualShockers, the device is listed with the CUH product code, which is associated with the PS4 and its accessories. The wireless adapter has a five volt power supply and is described as a bluetooth transceiver.

Since Sony hasn't officially announced the device, its purpose is as of yet unclear. It has been speculated that the adapter could be intended to allow the PS4's DualShock 4 controllers to be used on PCs and other devices.

Currently, the DualShock 4 is capable of pairing with PCs using most third-party bluetooth dongles, but Sony may be interested in releasing an official one, as Microsoft has for the Xbox One controller.

By doing so, it could better support PC games and PS4 titles that have cross-platform multiplayer, such as Street Fighter 5. Additionally, it would be useful for those that play PS4 titles on PC through Remote Play.

Of course, the wireless adapter could also factor into Sony's plans to release a slimmer version of the PS4 and also the upgraded PS4 Neo, which analysts have said could be available before Tokyo Game Show in September.
