My Hero Academia Season 5 Is On The Way, And Here's What We Know

Release date is unknown, but the next My Hero Academia season is definitely on the way.

At this point, there's a pretty good chance you've heard of My Hero Academia. And if you're caught up, there's no doubt you're eagerly awaiting more episodes of the popular series. The show is confirmed to be returning for Season 5, both via a post-credits Season 4 finale teaser and a tweet from the official My Hero Academia Twitter account.

There's currently been no announced release date for My Hero Academia Season 5. Translating the aforementioned tweet to English, the anime's showrunners say, "The fifth season of Hiroaka comes! My Hero Academia TV anime 5th production decision! New visuals are also lifted!"

Assuming it continues to follow the manga (which, at this point is probably a given), the fifth season will pick up during the Joint Training arc. These events directly precede what occurs in My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising, a 2019 movie that sees Midoriya, Bakugo, and the rest of Class 1-A go up against Nine, a man who possesses nine different superpowered Quirks.

In the Joint Training arc, Class 1-A joins up with 1-B to hone their abilities in a tournament-style battle. Depending on how quickly the show moves through the arc, Season 5 might also cover some of the Meta Liberation Army arc, which goes into main villain Tomura Shigaraki's backstory and likely directly follows the events of Heroes Rising.

If you want to get a jump on Season 5 and see what it's likely going to cover in the manga, Viz Media publishes My Hero Academia in English online.

In GameSpot's My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising review, Jordan Ramée writes, "There's plenty to love about My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising--it manages to inject an exciting and compelling side story into the anime--but its conclusion dashes much of that goodwill with a single line of dialogue. Until that moment, though, Heroes Rising is a good superhero movie that manages to satisfyingly sell the theme of its central conflict."

Prepare yourselves for even more protagonism and plot armor (even for the villains). At least the series kept it's charm, but regarding the plot itself? Well... high expectations is not really recommended

@gleencross: Feels like all the interesting villains get tossed away I'm hopeful that Hero Killer Stain and Overhaul will return though. I'm convinced Overhaul's quirk will evolve rather than it being fully removed hopefully he'll get revenge on emo face kid.

@gamingdevil800: Unlikely. The emo face kid is receiving so much plot armor, it's insane. Some minor spoiler ahead... Considering what I saw on reddit, not all the fans are disgusted with this, but some are starting to get mad with the exaggeration. The issue is not how the characters gets stronger and stronger, this is a dumb shonen cliche that most people are used to... The issue is related to merit. These characters really deserves so many free power ups? It is that easy, your grandmother has to be Nana Shimura and that's enough for evil Steve Jobs to gave his entire inheritance, just like that? And the same logic applies to the protagonist, lol this story is about two little brats fighting each other with inherited powers that are not really theirs.

@gleencross: Nana Shimura worst super hero parent of the year. I feel like that's barely touched upon too.
