Mplayer Snares Quake II
Mplayer makes deathmatch play as easy as dialing 911.
Mplayer has announced that it is launching Quake II on its service, as well as what it is calling the MPlayer Portal, a free match-making service for Internet QuakeWorld and Quake II servers.
Players will be able to engage in free Quake matches using Portal, through which they can connect to other, non-MPlayer Quake servers on the net - and to service's Gizmo Game Launcher, which allows players to find a server to play Quake on and helps them round up players to compete against.
The Portal to QuakeWorld can be accesed now, and the Quake II portal should be up by the end of the month, MPlayer says.
Players will also be able to access Quake II via MPlayer's premium (pay-to- play) channel, which will feature player ratings and rankings, support for Quake mods and tournaments. Access to the MPlayer Plus premium area costs subsribers $29.95 a year.
