Location-based entertainment has quickly risen to replace arcades as the hot spot for interactive gaming. Sega Game Works, Sony's Metreon, DisneyQuest, and others are lining up to grab a lion's share of your entertainment dollar.

British Columbia-based Mountain World Entertainment announced Friday several strategic partnerships that will add attractions to the company's LBE debuts in Canada. The Mountain World centers are being developed as hi-tech attractions for mountain resorts in the US and Canada.

Sony and Sony Computer Entertainment Canada have both signed on to become sponsors of MWE's flagship center, which will be located in Whistler, BC (opening in late November). Sony will provide top of the line audio and video equipment for the location. In addition, Sony Computer Entertainment Canada will provide the attractions for a "PlayStation Zone," which will highlight the system's games in a unique display with plenty of stations for gamers to sample the latest titles.

Virtual World Entertainment has also signed on to provide MWE with its newest "Tesla System" attraction. Virtual World's creation allows up to eight players to compete head-to-head in computer-generated environments and games.
