Last year, Capcom locked down the exclusive rights to make games based on the MotoGP championship racing circuit, a deal that will remain in effect until 2012. The move consolidated under one publisher what had theretofore been a licensing agreement that saw Namco Bandai hold the rights to make MotoGP games on Sony's platforms, with THQ owning the Xbox and PC rights.

Following on from Capcom's lukewarmly received cross-platform start last year, the publisher announced today as part of its Captivate 09 event that MotoGP will return for another season, though it will be only available on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Capcom did not reveal when MotoGP will see a green flag, promising only that further details will be revealed in the future.

Monumental Games has again been tasked with developing MotoGP for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. According to Capcom, the studio comprises a number of veterans of Climax Studios, the now-Disney Interactive Studios-owned developer behind THQ's MotoGP series.

Capcom did not deliver any hard details on what gamers can expect from the upcoming installment of MotoGP. However, the publisher did note that it will offer "full and in-depth gameplay modes" wherein "players will be rewarded for more than simply crossing the finishing line first." The publisher also said that it will feature both online and offline gameplay.
