Mortal Kombat X Comic Book Announced, Serves as Prequel to the Game

Read the first issue in January 2015, ahead of the fighting game's launch in April.

During a presentation at New York Comic-Con this weekend, DC Entertainment announced a comic book series based on upcoming fighting game, Mortal Kombat X.

The comic book, called Mortal Kombat X, will serve as a prequel to the 2015 console and PC fighting game. It features "many favorite characters" from the Mortal Kombat series, as well as "the next generation of Kombatants."

Shawn Kittelsen is writing the Mortal Kombat X comic book series, which will feature art from Dexter Soy and covers by Ivan Reis (check out the gallery below to see more art). The first release is scheduled for January 2015, ahead of the game's release in April of that year.

Mortal Kombat X is coming to Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC. For more on the title, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
