Midway revealed today that it is planning a new chapter in its classic Mortal Kombat series. The new game, Mortal Kombat: Deception, is currently in development and will ship in fall of 2004 for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox. The game's rating is still pending.

Deception will be the second Mortal Kombat game for current-generation consoles, following 2002's Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance. The game will be "shocking and evil" and will rework the fighting franchise "with a host of new features, including multiple fatalities per character, multitiered interactive backgrounds, and extensive new game modes,” said Steve Allison, Midway's chief marketing officer.

As mentioned in GameSpot's exclusive preview, many classic Mortal Kombat characters will return in Deception, including Baraka, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Mileena, and Ermac. Gamers can view the trailer for themselves via the link below, or they can view it on GameSpot DLX.
