Mortal Kombat Boss Likes Idea of a Horror Movie Fighting Game

Mortal Kombat and Injustice developer NetherRealm Studios has worked with horror movie characters several times now, releasing them as downloadable content for its fighting games. The idea of devoting an entire game to them might seem unlikely, but NetherRealm director Ed Boon isn't entirely opposed to the idea.

Speaking with Game Informer about the subject of choosing DLC characters, Boon was asked about the prospect of just such a game. "Yes, yes! You know, as we've been accumulating them, that idea has been coming up more and more frequently," he said when the idea was mentioned.

"You brought it up and a few other people have brought it up like, 'Why don't you do a horror movie fighting game?' Maybe one day we'll do it."

That's by no means confirmation that anything will happen, but it does give horror fans something to hope for.

While not enough to field a roster for an entire game, NetherRealm has worked on quite a few horror characters, including Freddy Krueger, Jason Vorhees, Leatherface, and the Xenomorph from Alien. All of these are playable in 2011's Mortal Kombat or the more recent Mortal Kombat X.

NetherRealm recently announced Injustice 2, which is slated for release on Xbox One and PS4.
