Mortal Kombat 5 confirmed for PS2, Xbox

Midway confirms that the upcoming Mortal Kombat game will be released on the Sony PlayStation 2 and the Microsoft Xbox.

As part of its third-quarter earnings report, Midway has released specific information regarding its product lineup and development plans for the remainder of the year and the beginning of 2002. Most notably, the company confirmed that Mortal Kombat 5 will indeed be released for the Sony PlayStation 2 and the Microsoft Xbox in 2002. Specific information on the game was not revealed.

The company further confirmed that it will release six games for the Sony PlayStation 2, three games for the launch of the Microsoft Xbox, two for the Nintendo GameCube, and two for the Nintendo Game Boy Advance in 2001. The company's PlayStation 2 lineup includes CART Racing in the quarter ending June 30, NHL Hitz 2002 and Spy Hunter in the quarter ending September 30, and NFL Blitz 2002, Arctic Thunder, and Legion in the quarter ending December 31. NFL Blitz 2002 and NHL Hitz 2002 are slated to be launch games for the Microsoft Xbox and Nintendo GameCube. Artic Thunder will be the company's third Xbox launch game. Midway's Game Boy Advance lineup for 2001 includes NFL Blitz 2002 and Ready 2 Rumble Boxing: Round 2.

In 2002, Midway currently plans to release at least 31 new games, including 12 games for the PlayStation 2, nine games for the GameCube, and 10 games for the Xbox.
