Mortal Kombat 11's Cover Art Revealed

I want more classic characters. Enough with cameo bullshit characters. This is MK, not DC/Marvel whatever.

Scorpion's the poster spectre as usual.

GET OVER HERE!

I hope we get an Arabic character. Maybe a character from Sierra Leone.

You know, there are other characters besides Scorpion....

And the normal MK logo with it's original theme would suffice.

I would have kept the same coloring, fire effects in the background, with the MK Logo; but only with the 'Mortal11Kombat' text written in the middle of the MK Logo. That would have been enough for me. I love Scorpion, but he doesn't have to be on the cover art for MK11.

However, there IS a clear exaggeration around concerning Scorpion being "everywhere".

He was barely ever used for the Arcade cabinets throughout the franchise up to MK4 (same with Sub-Zero):

MK1 cabinet: Johnny Cage

MK2 cabinet: Raiden

MK3 / Ultimate MK3 cabinets: Sindel + Shao Kahn

MK4 cabinet: Quan Chi

Then we have the covert art of console versions of the games. Most of those were only the MK Logo with the game's number and just 'Mortal Kombat' written on it (very much like I would have preferred it for the MK11 art; keep it simple and traditional from earlier games covers). However, some of them do have one, or sometimes more characters on the front art, such as Goro for MK4 (Nintendo 64).

MK9 cover art had BOTH Scorpion + Sub-Zero on it and both fighting each other instead of a generic pose. That was the FIRST time both of them appeared next to each other as cover art (or as 'advertising art' in general prior to a main MK game launch). And finally, for MKX I do believe that it was the time, and ONLY time so far where we had Scorpion (and only him, alone) as the main and cover art of any MK game ever on home consoles. The only cover arts I'm not aware of are for the portable versions of the MK games (GameBoy, GameGear, Vita, etc). If those do differ then I don't know about it. But for home console versions Scorpion is FAR from being everywhere.

Ed Boon did mention a few times he really likes Scorpion, that's his right. Some people prefer other characters, whatever. To each their own. But Mr. Boon is part of the franchise and its history. If there's one guy I know I owe a lot for the MK franchise in general that's him. I don't mind that he likes Scorpion. And I don't mind that Scorpion and Raiden have been used in the main trailer for MK11. On a side note, the main trailer for MKX had - again - BOTH Scorpion and Sub-Zero fighting in the forest (and it was amazing).

It's just a matter of long-term memory. Some people just don't remember, or don't bother looking at the facts. It's been only very VERY recently in the history of the MK franchise that we've been seeing Scorpion more prominently as a character used for advertising a main MK game. And let's not forget Raiden was in the trailer too, and he wiped the first variation of Scorpion that showed up, blowing his head off. I'm sure that a lot of Scorpion haters out there were happy about that one.

I'm curious, who's the female character at the end of the trailer, touching what seems to be an hourglass? The main villain in this game?

Seems to be related to the "time bending story".

Jade's ending in MK9 mentioned that after the fight with Shao Kahn, she collapsed. And, in a dream, an unknown "shimmering" woman spoke to her "with an air of regal authority" that she has watched through the minds of mortals the events that unfolded over the centuries (previous MK tournaments?). Also that Shao Kahn's death was an event that has to be "Re-imagined". She then possesses Jade and emerges in the waking world.

Could be her.

Wouldn't be surprised if they end up making classic characters again, alongside the new ones, just like in MKT (i mean separate classic characters, with different move sets, not just the same ones with classic costumes).

Scorpion is overwhelmingly iconic for Mortal Kombat. Put Shoa Kahn maybe in the background of the art. Scorpion should be more almighty than this than to last in the same sort of direction. Not hating but this needs change

I will agree that it is very minimalistic but you know what they say, right? Sometimes less is more.
