Mortal Kombat made a big return this year, setting the stage for a fresh round of bloody brawling as the franchise heads into a new era. Like several other high-profile releases, Mortal Kombat 1 saw a price increase to $70, but in this Black Friday special, you can save $30 on NetherRealm's brutal fighting game.

Prices and availability vary by retailer:

Not too much has changed in Mortal Kombat 1, but one of the big features in this incarnation of the long-running franchise is the new Kameo Fighters system. This allows you to call in an assist from a wide roster of Mortal Kombat characters from across multiple games, essentially giving you special moves on demand with just a quick tap of the button. Beyond that, Mortal Kombat 1 has an action-packed campaign mode, the new Invasions mode continues the fisticuffs after the end credits have rolled, and the gorgeous graphics makes every gory fatality that much more disturbing.

The roster is also a fantastic mix of old favorites and refreshing takes on familiar warriors, and if you're looking to build your ultimate showdown, then you can look forward to the DLC releases of Omni-Man, Homelander, Peacekeeper, and more in the months to come.

"There is a lot to enjoy about this new era of NetherRealm's top fighting game. Mortal Kombat 1 casts a much-needed set of fresh eyes across its lore, which reinvents the roster in new and interesting ways," Jason Fanelli wrote in GameSpot's Mortal Kombat 1 review. "Not every choice works, both in character design and development, but the ones that do make an immediate impact. Fighting with these new characters is awesome thanks to air combos and Kameos, even if the modes outside of campaign leave something to be desired. The future of Mortal Kombat is bright, and MK1 marks the first step on that new path. I just hope the next chapter gives me more to sink my teeth into."

If you're looking to pick up a few more deals on recent games, don't miss out on these deals for Assassin's Creed Mirage and Final Fantasy 16.
