More Xbox One Backwards-Compatible Games to Be Announced This Week

What are you hoping to see?

Microsoft may announce the next wave of Xbox 360 games coming to Xbox One through backwards compatibility as early as this week. Xbox boss Phil Spencer offered the tease recently on Twitter.

Asked when fans will see the next batch of titles for backwards compatibility, Spencer replied, "Looks like you should hear some news this week."

The fan added, "Really wanna see Red Dead Redemption," but Spencer didn't reply to this.

With more than 87,000 votes, Rockstar's 2010 western action game sits near the top of Microsoft's most-requested backwards compatibility voting page, behind only Call of Duty: Black Ops II. There is no guarantee, however, that Red Dead Redemption will ever come to Xbox One through backwards compatibility. Ultimately, publishers--in this case Rockstar Games--get to make those decisions.

Backwards compatibility is currently available on Xbox One for Preview Program members only. It will roll out to everyone in November, at which time there will be "hundreds" of available games. In addition, all future Xbox 360 Games With Gold titles will be backwards-compatible.

In July 2015, Criterion Games said it would like to bring Burnout Paradise to Xbox One, while Ubisoft has also talked about bringing some of its back-catalog titles to the new platform. In addition, Electronic Arts recently said it's interested in bringing some Xbox 360 games to Xbox One through EA Access.

For now, you can check out this list of all the Xbox 360 games playable on Xbox One through backwards compatibility.

I get nervous when I see EA getting involved. When I get my XOne I get the feeling I'm going to have to pay to play the games I already own. Good thing I'm keeping my 360 just in case.

I still Have my 360, so not sure if I'm that excited about this. Other than the convenience of only having one xbox in my living room.

@atakanovic: **** remasters. We need as much free BC as possible and NEW IPs!

Sick of sequelitis and HDRitis.

Unless, MAYBE, you plan on remastering an entire franchise and STILL charge 40$ MSRP for it.

@Ohem1: Your comment is a fair one. Because it pertains to you. "Read" opinion. I, on the other hand, found RDR to be the most atmospheric western I've ever had the pleasure to experience. Well, "A Fistfull Of Dollars and Unforgiven," may have something to say about that.

Shadow Complex showed up on my download list a couple of weeks ago and it's not showing as a supported title anywhere... I wonder what other games are already being pushed in without people noticing it...

What I don't get is why ppl that like Xbox are here denying the lack of journalistic integrity. It's simple, one can acknowledge incorrect reporting and still continue to like Xbox.

Our passion for a product is not inversely related to asking for better reporting.

I have been with Xbox since the original launched in 2001 and I've had Xbox Live since the original Xbox. I have 100,000+ Gamerscore, I bought two 360s in launch 2005, and I also have a launch 2013 Xbone. I also have hundreds of Xbox and 360 retail games.

Furthermore, this is a non-substance article as no actual Xbone BC games were listed. Just a quote from PR and we clicked here for really nothing. "An Announcement of an Announcement". We'll undoubtedly get another few articles with an actual USEFUL BC list and news later. So this is just clickbait with a misleading Xbox Exec Mike Ybarra's quote thrown in who said about 100 BC games by this holiday, not hundreds. Just confusing and poor research all around.

Xbone BC is good. People that aren't like me that didn't keep their 360s (I'm a collector with HUNDREDS of 360 games) can play 360 games on their Xbone. Great. That's good. We know this. Some people will use it, others won't. I bought my Xbone for new experiences and will avoid wear and tear on it as long as possible. I still own my 360s. I appreciate other people aren't in the same position as me though and BC could be wonderful for them just as the Atari 5200, GameBoy Advance, Genesis, DS, 3DS, PS2, PS3, Wii, Wii U, 360, and more also had BC options back then.

How ppl can spin asking for better journalism and non-clickbait into Xbox fanboyism is beyond me.

Instead of me telling you stuff tell me how it feels when you got to pay for trash box live and I won't have to spend a dime on it for pc and play the same exact games that play and look so much better.. ;) Yeah.. you can really tell MS is "supporting" the trash box so much.. @kolz4ever: raging, by asking you what games you think Microsoft is spending their time on for PC, the platform i do play on? -how about check my profile\stacks dumbass, there's a reason they exist on here.

i ask because i keep close tabs on anything coming out to this platform that is worth noting and Microsoft hasn't been into development for good PC games in a very long time. just because they put their name on a game as publisher doesn't mean much. it is funny though you still have none to mention because you're just full of shit.

@elessarGObonzo I could give a shit what your profile says or why they exist. If I cared that much about some random trash online commenting I think i would have already looked in to it. ;) Common sense, use it. You keep close "tabs" on something you don't even play.. Right that makes sense.. Lets keep "tabs" like we work in the government on a a pile of shit system that is a world wide flop just because.. Yeah.. I will buy that one easily.. ;) And what's with your probable guesses, brah? Can't you stay with one idea and go along with it? Worried on being wrong so you have to come up with multiple guesses for some random person online who can see your bull shit clearly so you "be the better"? ;) And what's with micrsoft developmented games retard? lol.. Either that, or you're just so misinformed about everything that isn't PC gaming that you HAVE to spout those lines just to hide that fact. Either way, you're trying too hard at trying too hard

What I don't get is why ppl that don't like Xbox are here arguing semantics about BC.

No it's not 100-percent BC but 100 titles at launch is a lot. Most people don't own close to 100 games on any particular console. They've got a decent number of big names to support it.

And it's free. It works great already I've used it had no problems with it. You put the old disc it it downloads the game and installs the emulator version and it plays just like you were on 360.

I think the bigger beauty of it is most of the Live Arcade games will eventually be available.

There's nothing stopping you from keeping your 360 or not using BC.

How ppl can spin this as bad is beyond me.

Avatar image for SolidTy

Xbox Execs and exec Mike Ybarra never said "hundreds by November", they said about 100 by this holiday. Poor reporting by Eddie again. I guess he doesn't care? Good that BC is coming to Xbone in November, despite the poor reporting.

That said, I am using my multiple 360s to play my 360 games. I don't want to wear out my Xbone with old games since I bought my Xbone for new experiences.

Avatar image for rapt0rx

@SolidTy: you an Xbox guy but constantly calling it xbone? Why? They did say over a hundred tittles.

Avatar image for SolidTy
SolidTy

@rapt0rx: Xbone is just so, so, so much easier to type (no need for spaces) and everyone knows what it is and I can get to making my point quicker.

I didn't name the machine, but I just go with the flow. All my Xbone friends I play with type Xbone and it's all good. We don't see Xbone as an insult either though because it's not.

Regarding how many titles and what was said....

Official Source: Microsoft executive Mike Ybarra who explained that about 100 Xbox 360 titles will be playable on Xbox One by "this holiday".

That's the honest truth and is incorrectly reported in the article.

Google Mike Ybarra's quote and see the timeline by this Holiday. He said "about 100" which could mean 87, 95, 104...about 100 titles by this holiday 2015. That's the goal. That's the plan. Not "hundreds" by November.

What's crucial is the timeline of Holiday 2015. I believe there will be hundreds as the years go on, but the timeline of holiday 2015, or November is incorrect according to Xbox executives that are being misquoted by Eddie.

@SolidTy: semantics

Avatar image for SolidTy
SolidTy

@oflow: Journalistic Integrity.

Accuracy in journalism, not semantics. Right now, people would read this article and be mislead by poor journalism.

Xbox BC is good. Lying or falsifying news for clicks is bad, even if it's a small error, it's an error that Clickbait Eddie has made now three times in other articles and he seems to "enjoy" misleading users? At this point, I don't understand the confusion other than clickbait. My information is based on Exec Mike Ybarr's own words. It's that simple.

No need to defend poor journalism. Eddie gets paid to report, he should do a better job.

Xbone BC is good. Poor Journalism is bad.

I have all the Xbox's since launch. I own hundreds of retail Xbox, 360, and Xbone games. I have hundreds more XBLA DD games. I have been a subscriber of of Xbox LIve since the original OG Xbox 1.

Poor journalism is what my post is about. No need to hyper ventilate just because it's an Xbox article.

Some big publishers are signed up like Capcom, but it's not like they have pledged 100% of their games will be BC.

You are right as well, other big publishers are not signed up for BC yet including:

Other missing publishers that are currently not on the Xbone BC list you posted:

-Atlus,

-Activison,

-Blizzard,

-TellTale,

-Aksys Games,

-505 Games,

-Devolver Digital,

-Paradox Interactive,

-Konami,

@SolidTy: They are probably waiting to see how it pans out.

I see it as a no brainer. They will sell at least SOME new copies of games when they become BCed and it makes fans happy for what SHOULD be a small amount of their money.

You are porting/emulating exactly ONE platform to work on exactly one OTHER platform. It is not like porting to PC.

I, as a studio director, would just not be jumping on this like it is the 2nd coming. Ease into it.

Avatar image for SolidTy
SolidTy

@omanojyaku: Maybe, or maybe they have incoming Remasters they would rather sell, or maybe they want to be paid on the side by M$? Who can say. Those publishers that are on board have not committed to 100% of their library either.

We gamers have already been through this before with the 360 which ended up at about 50% BC. I'm thinking we'll see the same thing again because at some point in time it just won't be worth it to make these games BC for companies and they will move on. I remember people arguing 10 years ago that the 360 would one day be "99% and that it was a no brainer so other companies could make money on those Xbox games". Didn't happen. Companies have other priorities and technical hiccups.

BTW Some of the BC games on Xbone have technical hiccups in the beta right now.

Bottomline, I posted a list of many publishers that aren't on board including big ones like Konami and Rockstar and that's it. Everything else is speculation.
Personally I have my 2005 Xbox 360s and I have my Xbone. I don't need BC, and I don't have a horse in the race.

I don't like the idea of wearing out my new machines to play old games. I bought my Xbone for new experiences. I felt the same last gen with the 360, PS3, Wii, PS2, DS, etc.

That said, I understand others may find use, but my point is the same. You will notice that I'm not arguing FOR or AGAINST your point. Remember, I said, "maybe" at the top. I deal with facts and use history and information on companies to make educated guesses.

Avatar image for daniel79

@SolidTy: Which makes very dubious of this whole BC story. We know it works as people are currently playing through it, Rare even made a bundle of games including 360 titles that are very playable, but, considering the state of the industry and the depths publishers want to delve to make you pay constantly for a product you already have bought, I just cant help but feel that these vultures are dreaming up a way to make us pay to play these old titles..

Or worse, just not bothering at all like some spoilt child who doesnt want to share their toys even though we have a stake in the said toy.

I'll stay dubious of this whole affair. Brilliant idea on paper and one which could see the Xbox one truly shine, but we've seen this crap before and it's just boring now.

Avatar image for SolidTy

@daniel79: True. I can't fault you for that at all. I'm kind of in the same boat.
