More PS4 Yakuza Remasters Are On The Way
But will they come to the west?
Sega is planning to re-release three Yakuza games that you may have missed. Yakuza 3, Yakuza 4, and Yakuza 5 remasters are all in development for PlayStation 4 and will be releasing throughout the rest of this year and into next.
Recent issues of the Japanese magazines Dengeki PlayStation and Weekly Famitsu (via Gematsu) gave the first details. Yakuza 3 is set to release in Japan on August 9, Yakuza 4 releases in the fall, and Yakuza 5 will follow in spring 2019. Each of the remastered versions will run at 1080p and 60 FPS. Yakuza 3 is already nearly complete, estimated at 90%. Remakes of the first two games, titled Yakuza Kiwami and Kiwami 2, were released last year and will release later this year, respectively.
Sega has not announced any of these remasters for the West so far. The series has been gaining popularity, though. The latest, Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, enjoyed generally positive reviews including from GameSpot, which called it a "unique and fascinating representation of the modern Japanese experience" in our Yakuza 6 review.
In fact, GameSpot's Jean-Luc Seipke, Ben Janca, and Michael Higham got together to discuss what makes the series so special in the video above, and came away with the conclusion that you should play all of it. If Sega brings over these remasters, it will be that much easier to follow their advice.
