More Pokemon in '99
The outstanding success of Pokemon in the US puts more Pokemon games on the release list for '99.
Since its release in September, Pokemon has become a nationwide phenomenon. According to Nintendo, the red and blue versions of Pokemon for the Game Boy have outsold all other games for the PlayStation, selling a total of 1.3 million cartridges across the US. More than Crash Bandicoot WARPED, Metal Gear Solid, and Tomb Raider 3. Pokemon Yellow -- new color, additonal enhancements was released in Japan last fall. New version of the original game.
Nintendo plans on continuing this strain of Pokemon fever, introducing two more Pokemon-based Game Boy titles later this year. At least one will be Pokemon Pinball--the first game to introduce true force feedback to the Game Boy. The other will be Pokemon Yellow, a new version of the original game with additional enhancements and a story that follows the show more closely.
"Simply stated, there has never been a portable game phenomenon like Pokemon," Peter Main, Nintendo's executive VP of sales and marketing, said in a statement. "During its time on the market last year, Pokemon sales represented one of every five games sold for all portable systems. And its popularity continues unabated into 1999."
