More Details And Images For Dark Souls Publisher's New Vampire RPG Revealed

Following a report from last week, Bandai Namco today officially announced Code Vein, a vampire game of sorts where you "feast on the blood of enemies" in a "massive interconnected world."

The third-person action-RPG is scheduled to launch on "major home consoles" in 2018. This is likely a reference to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One; there is no word on a PC version.

Bandai Namco also released the official synopsis for Code Vein. You play as a Revenant in a world "full of vicious enemies and monstrous bosses." More from the synopsis follows below:

"In the not too distant future, a mysterious disaster has brought collapse to the world, as we know it. Towering skyscrapers, once symbols of prosperity, are now lifeless graves of humanity's past pierced by the Thorns of Judgment. At the center of the destruction lies a hidden society of Revenants called Vein. This final stronghold is where the remaining few fight to survive, blessed with Gifts of power in exchange for their memories and a thirst for blood. Give into the bloodlust fully and risk becoming one of the Lost, fiendish ghouls devoid of any remaining humanity."

As a Revenant, players can make use of items called Blood Veils, which drain the blood of enemies to enhance the player's abilities, known as Gifts.

"Players can change their form to increase their strength, weaken enemies, and utilize new weapon abilities with overpowered attacks," Bandai Namco said. "Utilizing the vast array of weaponry along with each character’s Gift, players can adapt and strategize to a variety of battle conditions that suit their play styles."

Bandai Namco VP of marketing Eric Hartness said in a statement that Code Vein will offer a "fresh anime aesthetic and blood-curdling gameplay twists."

The game is being developed by Bandai Namco Studios.
