Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Trailer Reveals New Subspecies Monsters, Gathering Hub Improvements

Winter is coming.

Following the recent PS4 beta, Capcom has dropped another new trailer for Monster Hunter World's upcoming Iceborne expansion. The video, which you can watch above, shows off a couple of new monsters variants you'll be able to hunt in the DLC--along with a returning favorite--and showcases more of the new and improved Gathering Hub where you and other players will be spending your time in between quests.

As teased in the game's previous trailer, the fiery Glavenus from Monster Hunter Generations will return in Iceborne. The expansion will also introduce some new subspecies monsters, which Capcom describes as "extreme, twisted variations that amp up the difficulty and require master-level hunting skills to defeat." We get a look at two of these in the new trailer. First is the Fulgur Anjanath, which can emit electricity rather than lighting. We also get a glimpse at the Ebony Odogaron, which is "more vicious than ever."

Now Playing: Monster Hunter World: Iceborne - Glavenus Trailer

Iceborne is set in the arctic Hoarfrost Reach, which features a new Gathering Hub that boasts some welcome improvements over the one found in the base game. This time around, you'll be able to access various facilities like the Smithy, Resource Center, and Argosy much more quickly thanks to their closer proximity. You'll also be able to decorate your room with different pieces of furniture and other decor, and Capcom says it will release a post-launch update that will allow other players to visit your room.

Iceborne will introduce other gameplay tweaks as well. This time around, the difficulty will scale for two-player teams, and Palicos will be able to wield some new gadgets such as the Shieldspire Stooge or the Meowcano; the former is a "mobile decoy" that will draw the monster's attention, while the latter is a big jar that unleashes fireballs. You can read more about the upcoming expansion on Capcom's blog.

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne launches for PS4 and Xbox One on September 6. The expansion is also coming to PC this winter, but no release date has been announced yet. You'll need to own a copy of the base game in order to play Iceborne, but Capcom is releasing a new Master Edition that bundles both together for $60.
