Capcom on Friday released the second free DLC pack for 3DS game Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, the highlight of which is content themed around the Super Mario Bros. and Sonic the Hedgehog franchises. A total of 14 new quests, which reward players with new gear and more, are available through the add-on.

Defeat the Congalala and Emerald Congalala subspecies in the "Mario: Oh, brothers" quest and you'll unlock materials that can be used to build gear for your Palico companion in the form of Mario and Luigi costumes, as well as an Invincible Hammer weapon.

This content has actually been in Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate since launch, but today's new DLC should allow players to more easily craft the items.

Meanwhile, the "Super Sonic Seregios" quest sees players taking part in a fast-paced (of course) fight against the Frenzied Seregios creatures. Defeat them and you'll be able to craft Sonic gear for your Palicoes.

Other quests included in the new Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate April DLC have players battling against legendary creatures such as Shagaru Magala, Fatalis, and Kirin. As you could have guessed, defeating them will allow players to craft new gear for their hunters.

Below is a roundup of all the new content coming to Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate today, courtesy of Capcom.

  • 14 New quests
  • 2 New weapons
  • 3 Complete armor sets
  • 4 Palico weapons
  • 7 Palico armor sets
  • 1 Bonus Palico: Blue Pal
  • 4 Guild Card backgrounds
  • 2 Guild Card poses
  • 13 Guild Card titles
  • 1 Poogie outfit: Vagaboar

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate was released for 3DS in February and Capcom plans to release free add-on content on the first Friday of every month "for the next several months." If you haven't downloaded March's free expansion, not to worry, as it's still available to pick up through the game's DLC menu.

Finally, Capcom warns that it is performing some "essential" server maintenance April 4-5, during which time the Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate DLC server will be available. As such, if you want to play the content this weekend, maybe during Easter travels, you'll want to download it today.

March's free Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate was focused around the Legend of Zelda franchise.
