Modern Warfare 2 regains Call of Duty prefix

@VengfulOne Well they are total fools. They dropped it until they saw that study that claimed more than half of gamers interviewed did not recognize the name modern warfare without the call of duty prefix attached. I don't see how a gamer couldn't recognize the name either way but at least this makes all of the fans who claimed they wanted to distance themselves from treyarch eat their words.

No by adding the CoD prefix it means there may be zombie mode!

Well, it makes sense. Day one sales would almost definitely be higher with the COD prefix included. If the name had stayed just Modern Warfare 2, word (and sales) would certainly have spread, but the sales would take longer to pick up pace. Of course they need to protect and guarantee the sequel to the best selling shooter of all time's place in sales. Still, I kind of think it would have been cool if they had dropped the COD moniker.

Of coarse its going to be called Call of Duty still. ITS CALL OF DUTY!! You would have to be a fool to drop the name of such a successful franchise.

Its' simple marketing. (I seem to be on a rage roll tonight. lol) Its' the reason that Madden doesn't lose it's name, or why Halo doesn't lose it's. When gamers/friends/family (aka prospective buyers) walk into a store and see a recognizable IP, they will be more likely to buy it. If they lose the name, they lose that marketing edge. Just saying.

okay this is modern warfare 2 which is call of duty six for short world at war was number five in the series stop acting retarded people they just didnt put 5 on the box cuz it was too long but it was five and this is 6 and next will be seven which will be made by treyarch or however u spell it hope that helps

lol. i can't believe how confusing this is getting w/ the numbers and all. Is WaW COD5? Is this COD6? Is that new COD that treyarch is working on COD7? Lmao. Honestly, who cares. this will be referred to as COD6 most likely, because it is the 6th COD to be released. Plain and simple. But honestly, i'm sort of glad it's retaining COD. I think we can all agree Infinity Ward is best at making COD games, and so if Treyarch officially took over the COD series it wouldnt be as good. And tehres no point in making it its own series...the CODs will continue to use the same engines, systems, etc, play the same way, etc. So it makes more sense to keep calling this COD.

What does he mean this is the first sequel in the CoD franchise? Because CoD2 was certainly not a sequel to CoD, lol. What he means to say is that this is the first spin off in the franchise, the first time they're officially going off on a rabbit trail. I think they should've designated from the start (if they were anticipating sequels) that this was going to be a separate little deal, because until 4 it was exclusively WW2. Then we had 5, and now 6 is back to MW, and it's all very convoluted. Keep it simple, stupid.

No......not COD 6....there still isn't a COD5 I liked it without the COD prefix. But whatever...I will buy it and you will get killed many many times by me online.

Infinity Ward > Trearch. Trearch made CODWAW so un-enjoyable, in my opinion. COD4 was way better.

I am glad it has COD at the front of it. Not many people will know that's a sequel to COD4.

@georgeo10yal I know that this is "technically" the 6th game, but if they're calling this game "CoD: Modern Warfare 2" with no mention to a number 6 then are they going to jump to 7? CoD2, 3, 4, 5, 4:2, 7? It'd be sorta wierd

"S*** just got real?" Really really lame. I thought trying to act hip to pander to America's youth died with the 90s. Anyways, the naming of this game is starting to get almost as convoluted as the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight games.

I don't care....I guess I prefer the prefix,I'm used to Call of Duty,I only buy IW versions and they always change and they're always really good and unique.Trust me,the only "milking" part is when Treyarch comes in and pretty much copies IW's style.But seriously,CoD is always good,until IW really messes up,I am a loyal fan of this series.

@scphan I can assure you it is the same multiplayer we have been rocking since CoD1. I doubt they will change it to RTS format or make it turn based anytime soon, so you can relax knowing its good old FPS glory.
