Major League Gaming today announced the creation of a new MLG Arena in Columbus, Ohio. The company calls the Arena a "state of the art" venue that will play host to tournaments and activities all year long. The MLG.tv Columbus Arena bolsters MLG's worldwide championship presence, adding to the MLG Studio in New York City and the in-development MLG Stadium in China, which is scheduled to open sometime in 2017.

The new Arena's first event will be the MLG Call of Duty: Ghosts Pro League Season 3 Playoffs, which run October 24-26. Eight Call of Duty teams will duke it out for $75,000 in prizes; the first-place team will take home $30,000. Spectator passes go on sale this Friday, September 26, through the MLG online store.

MLG's new Arena in Columbus is a 14,000 square foot venue that promises to deliver 'the same exciting experience" as a MLG Pro Circuit event, but in a "more intimate setting." The Arena features bleacher seating capable of suppporting "hundreds" of people, as well as soundproof booths for players, a broadcast platform for live commentary, video screens that broadcase the competition, and even warm-up areas for players.

When the Call of Duty: Ghosts tournament wraps up, MLG will use the new Arena in Columbus to host other events (these will be announced "soon"), while the space will also be used as a "backdrop for MLG.tv programming set in a LIVE show environment."

"MLG's mission is to promote eSports globally through premier competition and to deliver premium gaming content to viewers anytime, anywhere through our global streaming platform--MLG.tv," MLG co-founder and CEO Sundance DiGiovanni said in a statement. "With the MLG Columbus Arena, we now have a flagship venue built to showcase the best as we continue to expand our global footprint."

MLG Properties EVP Adam Apicella said Columbus is a great destination for a new MLG Arena due in part to the fact that there are more than 60 colleges in the region. "Hundreds of thousands" of university and high school students live in the area, and Columbus is close to the United States' east coast, a major market for MLG.

Why Easton? Why a trendy overpriced shopping mall? Why not make a deal with the casino so people can at least bet on the games. Make it half interesting. Anyone who goes to spectate definitely leads a boring life...

<< LINK REMOVED >> Have you ever seen Easton? And obviously you have never seen where the casino is. The casino is in probably most most dead quadrant of Columbus. Easton, on the other hand, continues to expand exponentially and is easily the nicest mall in Ohio.

I am very familiar with both areas, but you missed my point. Easton sux. The bars and restaurants are overpriced and the rest is no more than a shopping mall. If I want to go somewhere good to have a drink and spend too much, I will go to Barley's or Elevator. My point on the casino wasn't the area. It was the gambling... a way to make watching people play COD more interesting.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> Well, think what MLG needs for this gaming arena.

Hotels: Easton-yes. Casino-heck no.

Safe area: Easton-yes. Casino-heck no.

Continued growth in area: Easton-yes. Casino-no.

So throwing the casino out of the mix, yes downtown would be cool, but so unfeasible. Considering MLG's target demographic about ages 13-26, parking is near impossible downtown, or at least affordable. Average on weekend garages is 8 bucks a night, even for an hour. Easton has so much room to expand, unlike any other growing areas in the city. There is a reason Easton is the only city in Ohio IKEA would ever consider expanding to (there is a number of articles on this).

And what else is near Easton. Well, there is an airport. I'd say that plays a massive factor.

Need I go on?

@slevin711

I get your point... BUT they said near Easton... were they ever more specific than that? Is it in the Easton area, but not actually in the mall? You leave Easton in any direction but East and you are in the worst of the worst of Columbus.Easton does not continue to develop. The main developments are going to Polaris. Easton is just new stores moving in where others fail.

and the casino area is not stagnant. There is a new hotel planned by the Casino and there is a massive redevelopment behind Westland mall.... now if someone would just come by and demolish the mall, that could be the kick the Westland area needs. There is a lot more development in the area and new renovations, but I take it you haven't been by very recently.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> Cmon man, the westland mall. Do I really need to post links to articles about the westland mall and it's near desolate state? And those articles would be from years ago. Casinos are rarely ever good for a surrounding area. Generally, they bring crime, prostitution, and a lower class of people.

I just moved from a place about 2 miles from the casino, and it is unbelievably stagnant, and downright dangerous. If you are in the area of the westland mall, drive there now and stay till dark. I guarantee you will see a mutlitude of shady business and drug deals. I have had guns pointed at me in traffic in that area, in the freaking daylight......

You gotta drop this west side thing. I am all for revitalization of an area, but this argument is about something MLG is building now, to grow a business that is largely on investor funds till right now. They dont have time to wait for revitalization and are defintely not the right crowd to spark.

So did you not read my post where I said if someone would tear down westland mall? Clearly you had a bad incident or aren't telling the entire story (like maybe it was hilltop and not Westland). I have been here for 23 years and saw Westland die. It was sad to see, but it is definitely improving from its worst state. In this time, I have never seen a single drug deal, prostitute, or ever seen anyone pull a gun. Easton is a safe area IN EASTON. You cannot sit there and tell me that Morse and Cleveland is a good area. I worked in that area for 4 years and was robbed at gunpoint twice, windows of the store shot out 3 times and 2 people bloody looking for help after being shot. You can add to this the motel that was recently shut down for prostitution and drugs just west of that area.

I don't know why, but it seems the scum leave Easton alone. Maybe its the sheer sum of cash Wexner invested. Still, it probably is a better location than the west side, but I still think the casino would add fun (which was my original point).

And don't think for a minute that Westland didn't have crime before the casino. An abandoned mall, abandoned car plant, abandoned Kohls, circuit City, Kmart (3 out of five are now occupied, with the old Kmart soon to be demolished), and an abandoned apartment complex (mostly demolished, the rest are being renovated). This isn't from an old article. This is from driving down Broad St and Georgesville Rd. all of these happened because of the casino and the people it drew. I regular a hole in the wall bar less than a half mile from the casino and never saw anyone but friendly people in there.

As an Ohio native who just moved after 20 years to Houston, f*ck this.

Stop it right now.You will not besmirch my state with FAKE sports, we already have enough real sports. Even including the cavaliers and browns who need to stop.

This makes me not want to go back to C-bus ever again. Ohio itself also does that but this is just no.

@grenadehh as a toledo native (denver last 22 years) I was gonna say, why? There are so many other nice places to do this (not that i would go mind you) Ohio is a hop skip and jump away from looking like detroit.

<< LINK REMOVED >> because MLG Columbus is MLG's biggest, if not near biggest events every year. It favors neither the West nor East coast. And Ohio is one of the best bang for your buck states. And if you haven't seen Easton before, you should do some research on it's growth year after year.

Also, many of MLG's original founders are from the Ohio area, not to mention many of the original professional gamers.

Do people really play money to go to an arena to watch people play videogames? I can understand if people watch it on-line, But playing money to sit in the stands watching people play Call of Duty and other first person shooters.

That is insane

Avatar image for grenadehh

@StHapns247 No one goes to the Rock and Roll hall of fame, it fell out of importance decades ago. And F you, there is plenty to do in Ohio if you aren't a reject. Cedar Point, Kings Island, the Beach, everything in Columbus, Buckeyes, Bengals, Bearcats, Reds, the entire riverfront in Cincinnati, all of the food in Ohio, all of the festivals, concerts, nature trails, the reservoir parks, need I continue?
