MLB 2K series is finished
2K Sports confirms it will not renew contract for 2014.
The MLB 2K series is finished.
A 2K Sports representative told Joystiq today that the publisher "decided not to renew our MLB 2K series for 2014. We are very proud of the achievements made by the MLB 2K team and look forward to their contributions to our future titles, including NBA 2K."
The series did not go out on a strong note. MLB 2K13 was critically panned for being essentially the same game as its predecessor, featuring only roster updates.
Rumors of the MLB 2K franchise's closure began to swirl today after sites featuring content about the series were closed--suggesting 2K no longer had licensing rights.
With the MLB 2K series now out of the mix, Sony's PlayStation-exclusive MLB The Show series will be the only baseball series in town. Xbox fans are out of luck.
