For most, escaping from a host of totalitarian government agents brandishing machine guns is enough motivation to run as quickly as possible in the opposite direction. Some, however, need a bit more stimulation to get their adrenal glands gushing.

Today, EA announced the first batch of downloadable content for its first-person platformer Mirror's Edge, released for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 last month. The add-on pack extends the core game with nine races across seven new Time Trial maps, where gamers will be racing through the city without hindrance from obstacles of the sentient variety. The DLC will be available for $10 (800 Microsoft points) beginning late January, and PS3 gamers will be afforded an additional map gratis.

As with other maps in the Time Trial mode, gamers will be able to upload their performance to online leaderboards. Additionally, players can race against friends' "ghosts" to see how their current performance matches up against current leaders.

Along with the DLC reveal, EA also said today that the PC edition of Mirror's Edge will be available in North America on January 13, with the worldwide release following three days later. For more on the DICE-developed first-person platformer, check out GameSpot's full review.
