Mindscape Adds RTIME to Arsenal

Harpoon4 adds RTime networking and voice-communication support.

Rtime Inc. has announced that Mindscape is building interactive multiplayer support into its upcoming real-time naval-simulation game, Harpoon4, with the help of the RTime Interactive Networking Engine.

The addition of the networking engine will enable gamers to network in real time while battling opponents, as well as allow those gamers to speak to one another with real-time Internet voice chat. Harpoon4 is based on Larry Bond's book, High Tide, which is set in the Cold War of the 1980s. Players will be able to control vessels - from a single ship to an entire fleet - in 20 scenarios or a full campaign. For those looking for multiplayer gameplay, Harpoon4 supports up to eight players in more than ten scenarios.

This is Mindscape's second use of the RTime technology as the first use will be in integrating of networking and voice communications between the upcoming release of Destroyer Command and the already-released Silent Hunter II.

Harpoon4 will be released under the SSI brand sometime during fall 2000.
