As spotted by NeoGAF, listings for the game at Amazon, GameStop, and Walmart have all been updated with a new 2016 placeholder date.

The game's digital pages, however, still show a release date of September 15, suggesting the delay only applies to physical versions of the platformer.

A representative for Saints Row and Dead Island company Deep Silver, which is publishing Mighty No. 9, declined to comment when approached by GameSpot.

Mighty No. 9 is in development for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Wii U, 3DS, and PC. In the game, you play as a robot named Beck who is the only one not infected by a mysterious virus that makes everyone else go crazy.

For lots more on Mighty No. 9, which we recently learned is getting its own live-action movie, be sure to read GameSpot's in-depth interview with Inafune.

In addition to Mighty No. 9, Inafune is working on a Mega Man spiritual successor and a new Xbox One exclusive.

yes delay it and make it actually interesting. game looks like generic crap. its 3-D for some reason and only weapon being used is the buster/blaster. mega man had unique weapons, a unique 2-D art style and story. what is this watered down simple experience being presented?

wow. wasn't the game delayed from 2014 to 2015. and now to 2016. after changing the art direction to a more casual look. this game is going to not live up to the hype or even be great am sorry.

@b3gv5m63: I'd rather just find out by playing the game, I can't make these hasty decisions because of something like this.

same with you. you're assuming its not a bad game and you're going to buy it.

@b3gv5m63: unless capcom can do something with megaman which megaman legacy isn't much but 6 megaman games. I'm going to try something different. Also I'm assuming nothing until I play it.

Don't give them a single dollar for new Kickstarter stuff until this game is out.

Are game sites really still reporting this even though it was confirmed it was a mistake. News sites need to do better research

I can understand a manufacturing delay by about a few weeks. Pushing the physical release to 2016?! No. Seriously, if that ends up being true, someone SOMEWHERE fucked up in the deal with Deep Silver. If this isn't squelched, there had better be a damn good explanation for this.

well, it WAS coming out the same day as MGSV, after all.

@BrunoBRS: Umm... since when are September 15 and September 1 the same day? That's a two week difference.

Avatar image for BrunoBRS

@Xirtahm: PC version is the 15th. but even then, i doubt the console players will be done with that game after just two weeks.

Wait, so GameSpot physically "approached" a Deep Silver representative and they declined to comment?

Weird.

I've always thought this guy is full of shit. and he only kickstarted that game cuz he KNEW it would get him a whole a lot of supporters cuz of the megaman hype. the gameplay looks mediocre at best, shitty graphics and looks like something should've been made for the ps2. Additionally, since it was announced, a ton of AAA games been announced and are released already and even their SEQUELS already released while him still delaying.

Dude, just come out clean and say u just wanted a big retirement payment u couldn't get from capcom, ppl might donate them to your sorry ass then, but this is just pathetic now.

@WA31988: When you're too pissed off about things that you were expecting not going well, I always have the feeling some people like yourself would say crap to think that's exactly how all developers/publishers are. Money-grubbing people. And yet you and other fans can be the worst more so than developers/publishers. Granted I'm not liking the additional media MN9 is getting before we even see if its successful. But I really don't think Inafune's that foolish to place hopes into something before we all find out. You're just jumping to conclusions. Not only with Concept, but with every company you get pissed off at with even things you find ridiculous. Unfortunately someone with Concept getting to high up there and it can't be the guy who worked on the Megaman series for that long. Why would he suddenly get that sure to do all those things?

You're just spouting out BS in the end, and making yourself feel better. You're not the only one though. Unfortunately it seems MN9 is going to be really put to the test of whether or not it can be worthy as a Megaman game. I still got to find out for myself, but I'm not jumping to conclusions before I make it through the whole game yet. I'm already past the gameplay not looking like the concept art at first. In fact most games go through changes during development. Even the intended concept art can be changed to lead into the final.

Then again, I might as well remain even skeptical of even some fans, because while I may agree with some fans, sometimes the others are just BS'ing with emotional response up the rear. I feel sorry for Concept for their effort, it seems it wasn't enough. And it's not like Concept this big company with just only several games not and hasn't been that longer than Capcom. They are still working things out with their company. And unfortunately some fans just don't know how business works. It doesn't matter how much VG companies do for fans, they still have to keep their company running or else it will be defunct.

Not to the mention the so-called Dina Controversy is nothing but a farce started by some of the fans themselves for blowing up in anger over one girl's opinion and her art of Beck as a female, and then going off at Concept for not responding to something that was ultimately still some of the fans fault.

I'll still get the game, and enjoy for what it is. The game could be a lot better though, but I'm through with complaining.

@nekoleon89: I wasn't a fan of this game from the beginning nor did i even support it. Didn't like the title, nor the main character design but thought ok maybe the gameplay would deliver, and the trailers so far say otherwise.

I'm annoyed at what developers are doing to the industry as a whole and this guy in particular was praised greatly when he first announced this. People thought he would deliver what capcom never allowed him to and without the crap capcom been pulling during the last generation.

I pretty much hate the hype when it's given to the wrong people for the wrong reasons and this dude is just making things alot more worse.

Avatar image for nekoleon89

@WA31988: Unfortunately they are a business when it gets down to it. Concept has barely been around, so I am keeping my eye on them, you're not the only one concerned about this animated series and now a live action movie...before the game is released...I think this guy Inafune knows better or maybe he has that passion to see something expand, but is not doing a good job of it for now. Whatever the reason, all this hype is because of one thing some years ago...We weren't getting a Megaman game. 4 times the blue bomber's games were cancelled so let me refresh on the matter.

Megaman Universe, Cancelled

Megaman Legends 3, was in the works, but cancelled

Megaman/Rockman Online Cancelled

Megaman ZX3 Never happened due to sales of Megaman ZXAdvent.

That's what, when, and where all this hype was all about and came from, some of us was at Capcom's neck for their bad business practices and decisions of their franchises. That's why some people was glad Inafune was making this move to go out on his own and make a "Megaman" game, that's MN9 in a nutshell. I'm not surprised some people were glad for one thing, and the change their perspective of it some time later. I really don't know what's going on in Concept right now, but some of these ideas are far too early to even announced. MN9 needs to be proves in sales and reviews first before all this additional media. I will admit it's daring, but let's not go any further with it, because no use doing all that stuff if the game isn't successful. I'm at least expecting MN9, to be a decent success...hey the First Megaman game for the NES was difficult as heck, and yet despite some reviews it achieved enough success for a second one, which was a lot better than the first game.

I get you don't like it, but unfortunately you're going to have to bare with it, Don't focus too much on MN9 when some companies with some people who have some similar ideas that hopefully we won't get to see. And you might well as take those words you said and apply it to every single video game developer/publishers, because they are a business too, and they are going to go where the money is to keep their companies afloat. I don't know if you look into sales of each game console or whatnot, but that's what I'm doing sometimes.

As for me, I just want to play the game and see if it's good. And I intend to for MN9

And maybe not sell it us as "hey donate this much and you get one level. Donate this much and you get two levels."

This is what worries me about the Shenmue III kickstarter. The total amount doesn't even cover a full complete game anymore.

Avatar image for nekoleon89

@Bread_or_Decide: Yet Kickstarter provided an idea for something that some companies recognize. I knew Kickstarter would have its cons, and I questioned it enough, there's no way people didn't see this coming though. But I still am skeptical of what some fans say. I get disappointments, but I'm not surprised some people put any VG company on blast for absolutely everything.

Avatar image for Bread_or_Decide

If this is true then F-him, F-kickstarter, and F-this game. Then he has the nerve to ask for more money for another game. WOW. As a gamer I'm sick and tired of being abused by the games industry. They want us to fund the game. Pay to Beta test the game. Then Pay to win. Pay to play. And oh look, DLC that's on the disc. Pay for broken games. Pay for half finished games.

And I should be grateful because this sort of looks like mega man? Really?

They won't stop until the industry pitfalls.

Avatar image for nekoleon89

@Bread_or_Decide: But we're always going to be consumers no matter what, doesn't matter what games you play on, they'll find ways to make sure games sell. But I wouldn't put Inafune on blast too much, besides, everyone doing that so much because of some disappointment in the past. BTW if the game industry crashes, I don't think we will get much of video games for awhile. They just need to find some other ways to do things differently,
