Midnight Club 3: DUB edition rolls onto PSPs
Rockstar's street racer speeds into stores; handheld version features content from the console version and wireless multiplayer.
Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition is now racing onto Sony's handheld. The game was previously released in April on the Xbox and PlayStation 2, both versions of which were developed by Rockstar San Diego. Rockstar Leeds got behind the wheel of the PSP version, which is only the second appearance of the franchise on a portable, after 2001's Midnight Club: Street Racing on the Game Boy Advance.
The PSP version brings street racing on the road, with career, arcade, and cruise modes all identical to the console version. A quick-race option has been added to cater to the mobile crowd who might want to just randomly drop into a race instead of muddle through a career mode race. As racers progress through the game, they will be able to trick out several facets of their cars, both functionally and cosmetically.
The multiplayer modes let one host bring five other friends to the race wirelessly. There are 10 different race types, including tag and capture the flag, and for those with short attention spans, downloadable content will be offered in the future.
Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition is rated E-10+, for Everyone over 10, and retails for $49.99. For more information, check out GameSpot's previous coverage of the game, or come back later this week for the full review.
