Microsoft's Xbox One games will be $60

Xbox maker confirms its titles will be sold for current-generation standard; other publishers have yet to discuss pricing.

Microsoft's Xbox One games will retail for $60, the same price as Xbox 360 titles, the publisher has confirmed.

No Caption Provided

This pricing will put Xbox One games level with PlayStation 4 titles, as PlayStation executive Jack Tretton said in February that PS4 titles will max out at $60.

Other publishers--like Activision, Electronic Arts, and Ubisoft--have yet to disclose pricing information for their next-generation games.

Industry analyst Michael Pachter in March predicted that Xbox One and PlayStation 4 titles would follow the previous generation in jumping by $10 from $60 to $70.

The Xbox One ($500) and PS4 ($400) launch later this year.

If they would have said $40, they could have started repairing the damage that they have already done. There was little competition in pricing even before they went to a download/digital format. Now that they have, forget about it!

You can keep your overpriced games (and I am also talking to you PS4), because if it is available for PC, STEAM SALE FOR ME!

The industry is moving more towards the digital realm. It's inevitable. And the Publishers will incentivize the digital version in order to maintain control. So, regardless of a console's DRM policy, the Publishers still maintain the power.

Phantasy Star for the Sega Master System was 69.99 and PS4 for the Gnesis was 99.99. A few high priced games are ok but not all of them. Ordyne (sp?) for the TG16 was 79 or 69 can't remember which one but that game was one that was not worthy of a high price tag. Lastly the Neo Geo. 200 dollars a game.

Well Microsoft is being very honest about their desire to turn a profit from the Xbox One. I'm still slightly suspicious about the PS4 only being $400...

@Mugzippit The price difference is about 40 bucks after you count the PS move. the XO will come with the Kinnect bundeled because it is required for basic functionality of the console (voice commands, gesture commands etc...) the PS4 has none of those features and that is why the Move is not required.

@NoAngle @A_Rabid_Dog Yes I've always been so concerned about controlling my console with voice commands and stupid hand gestures. Have we come to the day where people will talk about how hard it was to use remotes. They were so difficult. Children you need to remember that when daddy was a kid he had to use a remote. He couldn't just talk to his xbox. Kids "ewww that sounded hard".

@Mugzippit Why? You are suspicious of a company that is out to make money by PLEASING their consumers, rather than a company trying to milk their consumers for every penny?

@A_Rabid_Dog @Mugzippit Companies have to work towards pleasing their customers otherwise they will loose out in the long term. A company "milking their customers" is a matter of opinion since if a customer is satisfied with what they are getting for the price, they are pleased.

Logically games should be getting slightly cheaper, not more expensive. No manual, one disc. Heck most games dont even need boxes OR discs and yet they still cost the same. Let's end this medieval game pricing.

@AlexFili Explain how, genius... explain how. Discs are dirt cheap to process. It might be a dollar or so to manufacture one single disc. Multiply that by quantities of 1000's, and the price goes down because they get them in bulk. So why would the price go DOWN?

The price of actually CREATING a game goes UP & up & up!! They cost as much as a full blown Hollywood movie now-a-days. I remember when Shenmue was one of the "most expensive" games to produce @ 20 million. Now that's chump change compared to the 100+ million. How do they recoup the cost? By charging $60 per game, that's how.

60$ DRM atleast with steam we get 49.99 DRM & we can wait for the summer sale to get it 75% off. the advantage consoles had over a PC was you at least felt you had ownership of your game now microsoft want to change that & if it works sony will follow suit & maybe nintendo if they get with the times. but i won't support this garbage that spits in the gamer face no.

@demonkingx5 Of course, it will follow suit on Sony because remember it's up to the Publisher in the end. And the Publishers will push the digital sales by offering something some benefit like early release. If you think Sony will be much different in this regard you're just convincing yourself.

The approach they have to disc based gaming is much better tho, no question.

@demonkingx5 You can't share your Steam games with any 10 of your friends or family members, however. The sharing of the X-1 games has intrigued a few people, myself included... which I don't see why many haven't jumped on this bandwagon. ANY game in YOUR library will now be instantly accessible to mine if I don't own it.

@DawgByte2 @demonkingx5 This is what I like the most about the XB1, I rarely ever sell my games especially not to GameStop due to the crap price they offer. But I do lend them out to family/friends. Now I don't have to worry about getting my disc back in good shape.

One big problem... You aren't buying games for the Xbox One. You're buying a license to play it. You don't hold ownership of the game. You can't do with it as you please..

@allever You are right, but it's a pointless discussion now. Some have accepted it as continuing XB users. Others have rejected it in favor of other companies that give a better deal. I think not too many still have illusions about their right under the EULA.

Is there any reason to buy the Xbone other than exclusives? I mean, the rest of the "features" are a bad practical joke to users. It isn't worth it as a whole.

@Leonelidas Xbox overlay on TV is a very nice as is instant-switching, PS3 was going to offer similar features but they removed it to cut costs.... though, no rumours of such for PS4 but then the console was kept under wraps for a long time & Sony learnt from its mistakes back at the PS3 unveiling.

Kinect 2.0 is certainly one of the more impressive pieces of technology out there right now.

the cloud features while riddled with question marks do make alot of sense.

My only complaint about the Xbox One is there's no headset included in the box- which is pretty poor!

PS4 is very feature lacking and the launch is certainly going to make the newspapers and possibly watchdog in the UK due to the lack of advertised gaikai etc at launch, but it has cheaper price tag... Luckily I expected £500 for next-gen consoles, so both consoles come in cheaper than expected, I'll personally be going for the Xbox One.

@berserker66666 Nono. It's $60 day-of purchase, and an additional $.66 per day after that. If you don't pay it, the Xbox gives red-rings.
