Microsoft: No plans for handheld for now

Speaking to the Japanese press, Microsoft's Peter Moore states that the company has no plans to compete with the Nintendo DS or the Sony PSP--for now.

Following the new handheld unveilings from Nintendo and Sony at last week's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), it was only a matter of time before people began asking Microsoft if it had any similar plans. This question was recently answered by Microsoft executive Peter Moore, whose responsibilities include overseeing Xbox sales in Europe and Japan. While speaking to a number of Japanese journalists, including those from Jiji press, which was first to report the news, Moore commented that Microsoft doesn't have any plans for a portable game device--at least for the time being. Moore's comments hardly come as a surprise--given how focused Microsoft was on the Xbox during E3--but it never hurts to get confirmation.
