Microsoft Has "No Information" About Bringing Anything Except Minecraft to Wii U

This comes after Microsoft talked about Rare Replay on Wii U.

Writing on Twitter this weekend, Microsoft confirmed it has nothing to announce regarding any of its games outside of Minecraft coming to Wii U.

This comes after a tweet from the Microsoft Studios account suggested that the company might be open to the idea of bringing Xbox One's Rare Replay to Nintendo's console.

"We appreciate all your suggestions!" Microsoft said. "However, we have no information of any games coming to the Wii U other than Minecraft at this time."

As for the initial tweet that started all of this, here's what happened. On December 7, someone asked if, in addition to Minecraft, Microsoft might bring Rare Replay to Wii U. Microsoft responded by saying anyone who's interested in that should take it up with the Microsoft-owned UK developer Rare.

This led some to believe Microsoft was open to the idea of Rare Replay one day coming to Wii U. Interestingly, Microsoft's statement ends by saying it has nothing to announce "at this time," which leaves open the possibility of some announcement being made down the road.

Minecraft for Wii U launches on December 17. Microsoft acquired the Minecraft franchise and developer Mojang in 2014 for the price of $2.5 billion.

The only Microsoft game(s) I would love to see come to Wii U is any game made by Rare (like Rare Replay for instance).

i don't mind rare replay on wii u with free online multiplayer as long as rare update the looking/ads sensitivily for perfect dark zero and for lock the ads while screen moves for perfect dark xbla version.

It'll never happen but Rare Replay on Wii U would be awesome sauce.

Avatar image for Dcyple3000

How about release Tomb Raider on PS4. That community supports its exclusives at least

Avatar image for Bread_or_Decide

@Dcyple3000: *looks at the sales of until dawn and tearaway* You support what in the what now?

Avatar image for black_attack

@Bread_or_Decide: *Looks at sales of all the non-sci fi military shooters and non- racing games on all the M$ consoles* Yeah, M$ fanboys are worse when it comes to supporting games,.

Maybe a Rare replay Wii U edition without the MS Xbox and Xbox 360 games. Nintendo could offer Donkey Kong Country games? in "trade"

Avatar image for globalastro

Hell even if they just release a WiiU Version with the Nintendo Rareware games, and excluding the mucrosoft exclusove titles, I'd be happy

Avatar image for Ahiru-San

wow, MS bringing games to Wii U could be interesting... how about the other way around? maybe Donkey Kong Country gets a remake by Rare on the X1?? interchanging some franchises?!

since wii U is not a direct competitor, they should unite forces

Avatar image for xiseerht

@Ahiru-San Now you are talking. Clearly MS is wiling to talk to Nintendo. Because MS didn't have to bring Minecraft over , but they did. Doing some interchanging franchise trades would be a great and smart move. :

Avatar image for deusvex

Ms is opening some very uncommon doors. Could they be testing the waters of going publisher only?? I doubt it, but it does seem they are trying a new business approach. I personally just want them to bring all there stuff to PC and if other platforms benefit thats great. I sold my Xbox One, so MS bringing their games to PC will be the only way I can play them. Hoping for Gears, Crackdown , and Quantum Break the most. Seriously doubt Halo PC will ever happen again. Not anytime soon anyways.

I can't really see MS giving their competition anything, especially with how Nintendo has been very stingy with giving their competition any of their titles. It would be great to see MS and Nintendo come up with some type of agreement on sharing titles with each other, as a way of sticking it to Sony.. but again I doubt that would ever happen.. Nintendo struggles with the Wii U for sure, but they made bank on the Wii last gen, and the U is just a slightly upgraded console that probably cost them next to nothing.. They pretty much make back their money on the system with 1 game purchase..

Avatar image for xiseerht

@OrgeLambart: Both Headquarters are pretty much down the street from each other . So MS and Nintendo are clearly talking about ...something. There was no real reason why MS brought over Minecraft to the Wii U , but they did. I can some Rare Replay coming to the Wii U , in exchange for Donkey Kong Country and Diddy Kong Racing .

Avatar image for HalcyonScarlet

I don't see this happening.

Avatar image for sladakrobot

I would see problems with X360 games but NES classics and games like Jet Force Gemini...why not?

Avatar image for joe_b1_kenobi

@sladakrobot: Id be willing to sub the 360 games for donkey Kong country and 64.

Avatar image for j12456788

@sladakrobot: Sorry if I am a idiot and read your post wrong but what 360 games are on the Rare replay as far as I know the only Rare games on there where games that where on the Nes and 64 and I am sure the Wii U can handle 360 games

Avatar image for sladakrobot

@j12456788: There are Kameo,Viva Pinata 1+2,Perfect Dark Zero so far i am aware.

Nothing to do with WiiU couldnt run these games but the WiiU cant emulate the X360...means these games must be ported and i dont see Rare investing time on that.

This is a start of a relationship between Nintendo and Microsoft.. You can expect some Nintendo games to land on the Xbox One soon after. Yet another smart and sneaky move by Microsoft..

Avatar image for OrgeLambart

@vinnievic86: lol.. you really think Nintendo who have been the least likely to let their products come out on competitors systems would finally release some games on MS system... you have a better chance of Sony and MS coming together and making one console next gen..

Minecraft is only coming out because MS is most likely contractually obligated to release the game on the Wii U.. They bought they studio but would still have to honor contracts if they were signed prior to MS being legal owner of Mojong. Which explains the continued support for the PS title and the game coming out on the Wii U..

Anything else is ... lol... yeah no..

Avatar image for xiseerht

@OrgeLambart I am not so sure about MS having no choice but to bring Minecraft to the Wii U. I fully believe MS is trying to start a relationship with Nintendo. :

Avatar image for Jinzo_111887

@vinnievic86: Like the Game and Watch Gallery or Kinect Duck Hunt?

Avatar image for dragonfoxmem

at least Microsoft could let Nintendo have old Rare games download to Virtual Console....

Avatar image for alaannn

that a good thing putting there francises on other consoles they make more money

Avatar image for black_attack

The Wii U version of Rare Reply will outsell the Xbone version. Fact.

Avatar image for LPDisturbedHU

@black_attack: "will outside"? What the hell are you talking about?

Avatar image for black_attack

@LPDisturbedHU: There I fixed it.

Avatar image for LPDisturbedHU

@black_attack: I don't know why you'd think Rare Replay would sell better on the Wii U. I'd highly doubt it.

Avatar image for black_attack

@LPDisturbedHU: M$ owners only care about sci fi/military shooters and non-racing games. The only reason why you don't know that is because the media gives M$ a free pass because their hardware has good graphic.

Avatar image for xiseerht

@black_attack Non racing games ? Us Xbox owners bought a lot of copies of Forza and Forza Horizon games.

Avatar image for LPDisturbedHU

@black_attack: Microsoft owners? You mean the heads of Microsoft? Or do you mean Xbox owners?

Either way you're wrong. Rare Replay topped sales charts, Ori and the Blind Forest was profitable in it's first week, and plenty of other games have been released and done well on the Xbox platform.

Easy money on the table.

Them bastards

Avatar image for deactivated-57913537df01d

I think that would be pretty cool.

Avatar image for GH05T-666

Would love to see it on Wii U

Avatar image for black_attack

@GH05T-666: Where it belongs.

Avatar image for j12456788

@black_attack: No it don't Rare is own by Microsoft so why would it belong on the WII U

Avatar image for jtthegame316

I think it would be a good move for ms and Nintendo to argee to games like did kong racing that could not be included in rare replay that Nintendo allow them to be download into xbox one rare replay in return for a wii u version. Think that would be beneficial for both sides. I have both xbox one and wii u and will be buying rare replay weather it happens or not

Avatar image for obsidian_born

Rare Replay on Wii U? Well considering six of the games are Xbox 360 games... literally.... they were not even ported to Xbox One they just used Backwards Compatibility... (complete and utter laziness on their part) ...It will never happen.

I would honestly prefer it if Nintendo just partnered with Xbox to make games on their platform (X1 and Win10). I absolutely LOVE Nintendo games and all their franchises. I own and even collect their games, I just haven't truly liked a single console or controller they have come out with. I think Nintendo could design high quality peripherals in partnership with Xbox if they wanted some hardware sales.

Avatar image for abHS4L88

Games based on peripherals though rarely do well and it wouldn't encourage other developers to make use of those either because you're essentially asking them to purposefully limit the audience of their game.

Avatar image for black_attack

@obsidian_born: Banjo Kazooie was a N64 game.

Avatar image for LPDisturbedHU

@black_attack: Did you even read what he commented?

Avatar image for Doulos1382

@obsidian_born: Rare should partner with nintendo to release goldeneye, at the same style of perfect dark HD or something, that could be epic.

Avatar image for LPDisturbedHU

@Doulos1382: Microsoft mentioned that they tried working out deals for Goldeneye, but there are a lot of parties involved. Nintendo isn't the reason Goldeneye hasn't been ported over.

Avatar image for obsidian_born

They remade 007 GoldenEye for Wii, 360, and PS3.

Avatar image for dlCHIEF58

@obsidian_born: Same name, not even close to the same game. It is in no way related to the original, only uses the Goldeneye name.

Avatar image for Elranzer

Maybe now that Microsoft has Minecraft, they feel they don't need Xbox anymore.

Avatar image for iammcgruber

@Elranzer: They've said repeatedly they are fully committed and invested in xbox

Avatar image for spooie

Microsoft brought Mech Assault and Age of Empires to the DS, let a bunch of Rare games come out on the GBA and DS, and at least contemplated porting Halo to it as well... so if it doesn't come to the Wii U, I suspect there is at least a chance something could come to the 3DS.

Avatar image for moonco

Rare Replay coming to NX 2017. My predictions are never wrong...
