One of the many announcements Microsoft made during the 2010 Electronic Entertainment Expo was that it would be returning with its Summer of Arcade promotion for Xbox Live. Set to kick off this month, Summer of Arcade will usher in the arrival of Hydro Thunder Hurricane, Lara Croft and the Guardian of the Light, Limbo, Monday Night Combat, and Castlevania Harmony of Despair.

Today, Microsoft attached a release order to this year's Summer of Arcade titles, saying Playdead's Limbo will lead things off on July 21. The black-and-white puzzle platformer picked up a handful of wins at the Independent Game Festival Awards in March. Vector Unit's high-speed wave racer Hydro Thunder Hurricane will follow on July 28.

Harmony of Despair will feature multiplayer, naturally.
Harmony of Despair will feature multiplayer, naturally.

On August 4, Castlevania Harmony of Despair will be available, with Konami sending out a separate announcement to say the game will cost 1,200 Microsoft points ($15). Designed by noted Castlevania producer Koji Igarashi, Harmony of Despair will be a 2D side-scrolling action adventure with a new six-player multiplayer mode featuring "fan favorite vampire hunters."

Monday Night Combat, from Uber Entertainment, follows on August 11. The futuristic gladiatorial combat game features third-person shooter action, with players able to select among six different classes. Closing out the Summer of Arcade will be Square Enix's Lara Croft and the Guardian of the Light on August 18. Though downloadable, Guardian of the Light marks the fame tomb raider's first foray into co-op play in story mode.

Save for Castlevania Harmony of Despair, pricing information on the Summer of Arcade titles was not revealed. However, Microsoft did outline an incentive for gamers to snatch up multiple Summer of Arcade games. Xbox Live gamers who purchase at least three of the Summer of Arcade titles by August 31 will receive 400 MSP ($5) free. Those who buy all five titles before the end of next month will have 1,200 MSP ($15) credited to their accounts.

Im very hyped about castlevania with it having 6 former heros im hopeing to get it late tonight like sometime after 12 am, does anyone know how quickly limbo was up for download? like what time cause maby it will follow suit.

Avatar image for bennae66

demod hydro thunder last night. wow, talk about wipeout on water... limbo is amazing and scooped that up without even a demo, monday night will be in the bag but castlevania and lara croft im not sure. 1200 is steep and becoming 'the new standard' but i have to admit. hydro thunder really looks like a full retail release. the quality of these games is outstanding. i wont cash in on the 1200 unless lara croft is awesome. otherwise i will get 3 and be happy with my 400 pt refund

Limbo is amazing. Hydro Thunder looks like it will incite good old nostalgia. Monday Night Combat looks like it could be fun. Not excited about this new Tomb Raider, and despite being a major Castlevania fan, I'm not at all excited about Harmony of Despair.

@MacenKrace That is the most idiotic thing I have read in quite a while. Or even better how you say only the 3-D games are good. Super Metroid, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, original Sonic the Hedgehog, Mega Man and the X series, of course. Then you have games like Cave Story, Shadow Complex (2.5D but still) and Braid. That's only a few of the 2D games I'd prefer playing over the list of 'real' games you came up with.

@MacenKrace How the hell are 2-d games not real. That is so sad to say

1,200 points seems abit too much for a multiplayer only castlevania game.. I think im gonna wait for these to come down in price... Anyways monkey island 2 is now out so i dont have to worry about these games :D

No Hydrophobia? Colour me disappointed.

this would suck on 360 cuz of alucard's street fighter command moves.. imagine doing a 3ple fireball command and a soul command on the 360 controller it would be frustrating.

Avatar image for relentlessH52

Hard to say if I'll buy anything from this list, though I will be willing to try them out, at least. Thank you 'trial versions'!

Avatar image for Barighm

Almost sounds like they're treating Tomb Raider as the "best for last" title. Silly. Limbo, from the creators of Braid, and Harmony of Despair, in the same vein of Symphony of the Night, are clearly the top tier titles on that list.

What? Where's Deathspank?

Avatar image for baystatethrashr

@MacenKrace i could name over a hundred 2D games that are better than all of those combined.

Avatar image for deactivated-57be1a3a68c8e

Where are Comic Jumper and Shank?

Avatar image for EchoEcho

@MacenKrace -- Get off my internets, please. Anyway. Looking forward to Castlevania, and I'm very curious about both Limbo and Monday Night Combat.

Avatar image for ChudWarrior

Castlevania Harmony of Despair sounds awesome. Can't wait.

Mighty fine-looking line-up. Why the hell didn't Microsoft feature their Xbox LIVE Arcade games during its E3 press conference? Doing so would have gone a long way toward showing everyone that the 360 still has something to offer so-called hardcore gamers.

Avatar image for XanderZane

Limbo and Castlevania for now. I'll have to demo all the other games to see if they are good since I don't know much about them. I haven't even checked my Arcade in awhile. Should see if any new games got released.

Avatar image for darthnater77

No Comic Jumper, Deathspank, or BattleBlock Theater!? At least Limbo looks fun.

Avatar image for THE_BIONIC_ARM

Where is Comic Jumper in this????

Avatar image for ZJohnnyZ

I'll just wait till they are all half off soon!

Avatar image for SuprSaiyanRockr

Limbo looks good.

Avatar image for mrzero1982pt2

@feliscele puzzle quest 2 came out last week i think . i thought blacklight tango down would have been one too, but it comes out today, but then its going on 6 am here in the central time zone and it is not live for download... it could be pushed back to a summer of arcade game too

Avatar image for deactivated-57fce817a4cf5

That Castlevania looks good. Ok, now I wish I had a 360.

Avatar image for Dantethayer1

i'll be getting Lara Croft:atGoL and Monday Night Combat.

Avatar image for lamprey263

definitely getting Limbo and the new Tomb Raider

Avatar image for MacenKrace

@unreal_master RDR, BC2, MW2, GoW, the good stuff, not those 2D stuff.

Avatar image for PewPewNinja

Hydro Thunder Hurricane will follow on July 28.Do i need to say more...

Avatar image for tony382

I'll just get Limbo, Tomb Raider, and Castlevania. Will have to demo the rest of those first.

Avatar image for unreal_master

@macenkrace whats a real game mw2? sigh

Avatar image for MacenKrace

Too bad that none of these are for real games... kiddie games.

Avatar image for -Master_St3ve-

Too bad I won't pay for MS points :( ...principles

Avatar image for supersonic125

lol ps3 and wii fanboys have only but to hate , what a great line up, keep them coming MS

Avatar image for chopsticksoup

holtrocks, that post has nothing to do with this article and I immediately noticed the double "the"s. On topic, none of these games look particularly interesting.

Avatar image for SDBusDriver1979

I'm buying the Castlevania Harmony of Despair even though my gut is telling me its going to be bad. Something this awesome has to have something wrong with it.

Avatar image for holtrocks

after reading the the sentence you are now aware that the the human brain often does not inform you that the the word 'the' has been repeated twice every time

Avatar image for jazilla

monday night combat and lara croft are day 1's for me.

Avatar image for GatsuBlackSword

I'm really looking forward to Limbo. I'm on the fence about Castlevania I need to play a demo first.

Avatar image for slvrraven9

OMG and Hyrdo Thunder!!!!!!! How could i forget about that!!

Avatar image for slvrraven9

MAN i want that castlevania. i hadnt heard anything about any of the others so ill wait till i try some demos.
