Now Playing: Metro Exodus - Official Weapons Trailer

GameSpot may get a commission from retail offers.

4A Games has released the PC specs for Metro Exodus, the upcoming third entry to the studio's Metro series. The developer outlines the exact requirements your machine will need to meet in order to achieve minimum, recommended, high, or extreme performance. [Update: We now know another requirement: the Epic Game Store. Exodus will launch on PC exclusively through Epic's new store, though existing pre-orders through places like Steam will be honored. In the US, it also comes at a lower price of $50 rather than $60.]

Metro Exodus minimum graphical requirements are a tad higher than what you'd see in most games, running at an average performance of 30fps at 1080p. But the game will run on an Intel Core i5 processor and you don't need a Windows 10 OS. The same cannot be said for recommended performance or higher. To get 60fps or anything higher than 1080p, you'll need Windows 10 and your PC will need to at least be running on an Intel Core i7 processor.

The full list of specs for each level of performance are listed below, and can also be seen in a comparison chart on Metro Exodus' main website.

Minimum

  • Average Performance: 1080p at 30fps
  • Graphics Settings: Low
  • OS: Windows 7, 8, or 10
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-4440
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • GPU: GTX 670, GTX 1050, or Radeon HD 7870
  • VRAM: 2 GB
  • Direct X: 11 or 12

Recommended

  • Average Performance: 1080p at 60fps
  • Graphics Settings: High
  • OS: Windows 10
  • CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • GPU: GTX 1070, RTX 2060, or AMD RX Vega 56
  • VRAM: 8 GB
  • Direct X: 12

High

  • Average Performance: 1440p at 60fps
  • Graphics Settings: Ultra
  • OS: Windows 10
  • CPU: Intel Core i7-8700K
  • RAM: 16 GB
  • GPU: GTX 1080 TI, RTX 2070, or AMD RX Vega 64
  • VRAM: 8 GB
  • Direct X: 12

Extreme

  • Average Performance: 4K at 60fps
  • Graphics Settings: Extreme
  • OS: Windows 10
  • CPU: Intel Core i9-9900K
  • RAM: 16 GB
  • GPU: RTX 2080TI
  • VRAM: 11 GB
  • Direct X: 12

We're excited for Metro Exodus based on what we've seen so far, despite the risky new direction for the series with the addition of large open spaces. The game still feels at its best when it sticks to its roots and puts you into cramped, enclosed locations, though.

Metro Exodus releases for Xbox One, PS4, and PC on February 15.

I don't know if I'm the only person I tolerate playing in 720p or less. I certainly could play at 1080 with an rx570, but I hate slowdowns so much that resolution is the first thing I sacrifice.

its obvious they are pushing the line " get the best " equipment for the best options. im betting my 5.1GHz 7700k and 1080TI OC will deliver 4k 60 options...might not be ultra on all setting day 1 but it will get better after a few updates. look at BFV..., same deal 8700k for high 4k 60 fps.. i can play ultra 4k 60 HDR with my rig.

Will be interesting to see how hard Ray Tracing hits the cpu. In BF5 you need a i7 8700k for a smooth ray traced experience (as well as a rtx card obliviously). I'll be keeping an eager eye out for the RTX specific performance profiles. Hoping my i7 6700k will be enough with the 2080 ti

TERRIBLE , why do you need a 1070 for 1080p? that is ridiculous that just tells me this game is poorly optimized just like its previous games , "metro 2033" which performed horribly unless you had better hardware at the time despite meeting recommended settings. i'll wait for gameplay tests not purchasing until it drops in price. waste of 8gb for 1080p

@rarerichz30: you dont need it. They are a smaller developer. Which means its just what they had in the office to test with that runs it at that level. I work at a tech company, and when it comes to sys reqs, this is how they roll.

lol at all the console gamers having a fit because people can have things they can't have, and do things they can't do. If you want the best experience, it's always best on PC.. no questions about it.. you say you want it on xbox one x, but that will not run higher than 30 fps, just wait and see. You get what you pay for in the end, and if you want the best, you better pony up or shut up.

so for those who cant rly see thought it. this is "high, or EXTREME" at 2k or 4k, im sure ill be able to wiggle all ur slider over to the right just fine at 1080. there are several games that cause a 4k experience to crawl. tho it also may be a crisis situation where the dev threw every graphical effect at it, knowing that people will need to pick to use some, and omit others. i personally don't much care for bloom or reflections as much as higher AA, or shadows. just a example. but as iv always tell people. higher settings > higher res

"need windows 10 to get anything higher then 1080p" hahah right that is anything but true, maybe things should be re written. Same for the 60 FPS isnt possible unless they purposely put lock in to keep that from happening on anything but windows 10, which is they actual did such thing they will get burned by public when they find out

Avatar image for R4gn4r0k

@tsunami2311: "you will get better performance on DX12 mode, exclusive to windows 10" would've been better written, yeah

This is one of the reasons why I only game on consoles. At least you don't have to worry about specs when a new game is released.

but PC games always look better.

@doktron: Agreed. Consoles have a long way to go. But I still prefer to game on consoles on a couch in the living room.

Avatar image for untouchables111

@pmanden: i used to feel the same way until i built a pc and witnessed true 4k HDR gaming.. consoles will never deliver that level of detail.

@pmanden:

If an old HD 7870 is the minimum spec, then a GTX 1060 paired with a 3rd Gen i5 or better should be enough to get solid framerates hitting 60 fps at least.

PC gaming isn't difficult, it just takes a pinch of effort.

Why are there no Ryzen CPU recommendations for each performance level?

Avatar image for WESTBLADE

@W4LLW4TCHER: AMD is still shit in raw power per core, deal with it...

Avatar image for W4LLW4TCHER

@WESTBLADE: Vega GPUs might also be slower than their GeForce counterparts, that's not the point. I wasn't trying to start an argument which is superior here, I just thought it might be interesting to know the respective CPU recommendations, since there are also people playing on Ryzen.

It makes me laugh to see that the ONLY GTX 10xx series card they included was the 1050 on the Specs picture from their web site, and was downgraded in the Specs all the way down to only if you want to play on MINIMUM settings. Amazing how they ignore the 1070, 1080 or even the 1080Ti.

Gotta advertise 'dem RTX cards man! Want to play a modern game on "just" 1080p at 60FPS? Welp, good luck if you "just" have a 1080Ti, that might not cut it, better buy an RTX 2060!

>_>

Edit: OH LOL I checked again, and they changed the pic! They actually added the GTX cards too for Recommended settings and beyond. At least they noticed!

Sweet, just got a gaming PC and it looks like I’ll be buying this for my X or Pro instead. Still can’t wait for this game, looks great.

Avatar image for timothyss10
timothySS10

@dashaka: im also interested as to why? even if its not optimized two well short of crashing issues then even turning down settings on the PC will probably yield better performance over the consoles while still having better visuals. tho this statement may not hold water the first week of release in case of large issues. mostly, its a shooter =/ i personally much prefer M+K in such games, unless its has allot of movement, like doom, but then its still on the fence.

Avatar image for UltimateBastard

@dashaka: Just out of interest, why not the gaming PC you just got?

Avatar image for dashaka
DaShaka

@UltimateBastard: it’s good (my desktop), but from the looks of it, the X or Pro might run it a little better. I’m hoping those are optimized well. I’ll wait for comparisons though, and see how good the console versions look and run.

Avatar image for masscrack

@dashaka: you will run at 30 fps on console dude, lmao.

Avatar image for dashaka

@masscrack:

Which is why I’ll wait and see how it looks and runs on the X, or Pro. If it’s looks like it’ll be noticeably better on my PC, I’ll get it for that. If it’ll look the same a give me the same FPS, I’d prefer console since it’s not a competitive FPS, just SP.

Getting this for my Xbox One X (Yes, I am a PC gamer primarily).

These specs are a JOKE ! This is why console gamers say the things they say about PC platform.

A 2080ti for extreme ? LOL... so even a 1080Ti is not good enough now ??

Avatar image for pound-u

@starjay009: Ahh, yes. Your Xbox One X. A console upgrade to the weak ass Xbox One. Console peasants are now upgrading their consoles like a PC, but people still whine and cry about PCs. What a joke.

Avatar image for Wraith3

@starjay009: To be fair, when Crysis came out, no PC available could play it on max settings. That's where the meme came from. So this might be a similar situation.

I'm still using a GTX780ti SOC, so I'm iffy on this one. It might be time to upgrade again.

Avatar image for rarerichz30

@Wraith3: no need a gtx780ti is basically close to gtx 980 between 970 , you will meet minimum and close to recommended settings.

@starjay009: Yeah I thought the same thing and I don't even have a 1080Ti I have a GeForce GTX 1080 so my machine is average at best even though I have a decent machine with 32GB of ram at running at 3600 with SSD and Intel Core i7-8700K clock at 4.7ghz. even with this I still don't have enough. ;(

Avatar image for WarFox89
WarFox89

@angrycreep: It's a sad day if PC gamers with GTX 1080+I7 8700K with 32 GB of ram say their machine "Is average".

Breaking news my dude - Your PC isn't "average". Your PC considered High-end PC.

On the other part of the spectrum - who the hell said that 4K is the standard today? It's not. we are far away from it yet just as we were 4 years ago. maybe a bit closer now with the introduction of monster GPUs like RTX 2080TI but who on earth can afford that expensive piece of hardware? Playing at barely 60FPS on max settings just for the sake of "4K"? No thanks. 60 FPS is a bad experience for PC gaming. Maybe for consoles it's might considered ok.

Avatar image for rarerichz30
rarerichz30

@WarFox89: so hold on ? , since when is 60fps a bad experience? its the highest the eye can see , gtfo with that shit I don't need 120fps to enjoy gaming. and I am pc gamer and console gamer. I thought the console experience was 30fps now its 60fps? amazing pc elite douche bags. btw I have a gtx 1070 fx 8320 with 16gb this will be fine on 1440p no problem. you don't need a stupid 1080 ti.

Avatar image for WarFox89
WarFox89

@rarerichz30: if you get used to play at high FPS max settings - 60 and below will just make your eyes hurts. And wtf is this BS ? Human eyes can’t see higher FPS than 60?! ROFL this bs is old my dude. Do a little research about the topic. Human eye can see far beyond 60 FPS and it’s a proved fact.

Avatar image for Prats1993

@starjay009: Extreme as in 4K 60 fps which makes sense. The 1080 Ti is not a 4K gaming gpu and the Metro devs are known for pushing graphical boundaries.

Avatar image for rarerichz30

@Prats1993: don't care not spending 1000$ to play one game so metro devs can f off.

You can buy a car instaed of a pc with the specs similar to what they require for “extreme”.

Avatar image for off3nc3

@WarFox89: Being a PC gamer since the late 90's makes me reconsider ever upgrading seeing how these trends and inflation keeps going forward.

I never expected a high-end PC would cost 3K Euros ( depending on your currency ) when 4 years ago I could have made the same BIS system with 1.5K with 144hz 2k Monitor included.

Main reason why im going to stick with my ps4 pro this gen. Not going to feed these greedy fucks anymore.

Avatar image for WarFox89
WarFox89

@off3nc3: i feel the same way man. PC gaming becoming really expensive and game developers and publishers keep promoting hardware sells and advertisements instead of focusing on their games quality, developing and optimizations.
