Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain Companion App Lets You Listen to Unlocked Music

Konami has announced that Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will have a companion app just like its predecessor Ground Zeroes did. The Phantom Pain's app will boast much of the same functionality, allowing you to use your phone as a second screen to look at an in-game map.

The app also lets you listen to the music you discover throughout The Phantom Pain. It works with the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and Xbox One versions, but not Xbox 360 or PC.

In other news about The Phantom Pain, fans hoping to see the game with fresh eyes next week may want to be wary of Twitch. People with early copies of the stealth-action game are attempting to stream the game through the video site.

One such video was live here earlier, but the channel has since been closed due to terms of service violations. Though this channel has been axed, other streams might emerge.

The Phantom Pain's release date is set for September 1 across console and PC. Reviews for the stealth-action game started coming online this week, and they have been very positive. GameSpot awarded The Phantom Pain a rare 10/10 score.

Reviewer Peter Brown praised The Phantom Pain in his review, saying it is for sure the best Metal Gear game ever made.

"When it comes to storytelling, there has never been a Metal Gear game that's so consistent in tone, daring in subject matter, and so captivating in presentation," Brown said. "The Phantom Pain may be a contender for one of the best action games ever made, but is undoubtedly the best Metal Gear game there is."
