Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Konami will release Metal Gear Solid 5: The Definitive Experience on October 11 in the US and October 13 in the UK. The game will contain both Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain, as well as DLC released for both games.

The announcement of a re-release doesn't come as a surprise, as the game had been listed by multiple retailers prior to its announcement.

The official reveal was made on the Konami website, which also confirms Metal Gear Solid 5: The Definitive Experience will be available for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. It will retail for $49.99/£34.99. The site also says the contents and pricing of the PC version, which will be sold through Steam, "will be confirmed at a later date."

So they still haven't got around to completing Chapter 3 yet? No thanks...I like my games less repetitive and grindy..

Avatar image for deactivated-58319077a6477

I bet they will remove all the rolling credit that Kojima has put in each mission start and end. That is the only good thing about this version if they did that.

other than that I already have Ground Zeroes & Phantom Pain. The DLC content doesn't interest me.

Avatar image for meharu

They're not showing Quiet's boobs in the box art, no buy.

Avatar image for louixiii

Anybody that really wanted this game already bought it.

Avatar image for sonypony4eva

$40 or no buy.

Avatar image for xdude85

No Mission 51.

Definitive experience my ass.

Avatar image for soheil_nassri

Another money making policy by Konami. Dummy fanboys pls que there to be the idiots Konami is waiting for.

Avatar image for Link592

I'll by it for the box art alone.

Two years later.

I'll buy it when it's cheap, bought the game on pc, but would like to own it on PS4, since I own all the others on PS3. Also, the box is pretty cool.

Avatar image for camou504

Ummm im pretty sure one can get all this separate for a cheaper price

Avatar image for sargentpsgamer

Usually these re-releases come with something neat. An art book, anything. I buy them for that. this one is garbage and there is no purpose to it AT ALL. All they did is take off the Kojima logo and the art isn't even that good on the box.

Avatar image for darkouer

Everything comes on disc, or does it come with vouchers for the DLC?

Avatar image for madsnakehhh

To the surprise of absolutely no one in this world...even when Kojima was still around, we all knew this edition was coming sooner or lather.

This "Definitive Edition" is worthless to me. I didn't care about the multiplayer, I already bought the costume DLC on a sale for $1.50, and when I Pre-ordered the game it gave me a free copy of Ground Zeros anyway. What a waste of time.

Anyone who defended Konami and berated Kojima has literally no ground left for an argument after this and Survive's announcment. They had one year to bridge relations with the fans, and what do we get? A generic zombie game, a still incomplete MGSV "Definitive Edition", and a massive middle-fingering to MGS3 fans with that tasteless Pachinko machine.

Guess I can finally get this game. I skipped on it without guilt because I knew Hideo already got his $, but I still want to play the game. I'll pick it up.

Avatar image for Xristophoros

buy it used.

p.s. if you are a long time mgs fan, this game will disappoint you. if you are relatively new to the series with little invested in the mgs lore and characters, you will enjoy it to a much greater extent. in my opinion, the game is worth playing regardless of which side of the fence you are on... but expect it to be a noble failure of a game. it does half of what it is supposed to do but that half is executed very well.

Wow, I see cynicism in the gaming community is still as rife as ever. I question MANY of Konami's business decisions but this isn't one of them. Who's being milked? If like myself you already have these games plus all of the content then of course you won't be buying it... Not Konami's fault if you are dumb enough to so. Clearly this is aimed at people who don't and they are getting an absolutely amazing deal considering the price here. I've easily put 300+ hours into these three games combined, I hope anyone jumping on board with this package enjoys the experience as much as I did, flawed or not

Avatar image for Henry518

@I-am-Error: Almost all the DLC are just costumes and vanity items, you call that a fair deal? A DLC should be about adding new content to the game, new areas to explore, new missions, new items (not just item colors), new.... new everything.

Konami is not making much of an effort into making these DLC and what's even worse is that they're still trying to milk this game while it's still unfinished.

Avatar image for I-am-Error

@Henry518: Well, what the DLC is isn't really the point is it? The point I'm making is that the product as a whole is a bargain. I'd be all over it if it wasn't for the fact that I've already bought all the stuff at more than twice the price they are asking for this. And again, I ask, who's being milked? There's enough information out there about the game/s at this point for potential buyers to make an informed choice. The arguments about the game being unfinished are relative; I thoroughly enjoyed the experience despite the story tailing off laughably as it hurtled towards the finishing line (which I agree is a shame)

Can't wait for this, Said no one ever.

Avatar image for Acillatem1993

What kind of Goty edition is this lol. Like witcher for example comes with those 2 big ass dlc so thats cool. But... like for example I already got ground zeroes with preordering TPP, so this is just...not that great lol. But yeah I guess its nice for those who havent gotten the games yet, they can now get both together.

Avatar image for Xristophoros

lol as predicted...

just useless costume/items dlc and no new story missions. this surprises nobody. this is the worst "goty" edition of a game i have ever seen. did they at least place the ground zeroes missions into the main game so that they can be accessed from a master menu rather than load an entirely new "game"? that would be neat... but this being konami, i don't think they would even have the technical knowhow to make such a change.

i do like the new cover art, though, so there is that :D

Avatar image for Dragokai

BUT does it contain chapter 3?!?!?!?!?!

Avatar image for speed45823

It's not a definitive experience without Chapter 3. Also #FucKonami for milking its consumers.

Avatar image for Xristophoros

@speed45823: they won't milk me. never buying another konami product unless they miraculously put out a good silent hill or castlevania game, as unlikely as that sounds. and i will purchase the games used by the way :D

Avatar image for el_swanno

Konami has done this with every Metal Gear Solid game. Is anyone really surprised that 12 months after the release of the game they would re-release the game with all the add-ons?

Avatar image for YohanDeEmercer

@el_swanno: its not exactly the same though, substance and subsistence had more value as they contained new content not previously released but that was the days of no dlc. MGS4 had no second release version that I can remember (other than legacy collection which included nothing extra) and all dlc was for multiplayer anyway. This is closer to just releasing the GOTY version including all things previously released.

Avatar image for nepu7supastar7

They're gonna charge full price for THIS?!

Avatar image for YohanDeEmercer

@killered3: $60 is full price the article stated $50

Avatar image for paul136

I was thinking about buying the game again since i recently jumped back to a console. For £30 (most likely) it's a decent deal, but i might just go for the original version after this is released since it'll plummet in price. £17 new is the cheapest i've seen it, i reckon £10-£12 looks a lot more appealing :) And yes i'm being cheap, but there's no way i'm buying back a game i've previously bought at anywhere near the cost i first paid for it.

Avatar image for Halloll

Definitive MGSV, still incomplete and with no real ending. Fkuckonami.

Avatar image for paul136

@Halloll: Yeah but what a cracking game it is! I know all about the opinions of Jim Sterling & his famous phrase (i enjoy listening to him), but we must all make up our minds, and i had an amazing 120 hours of play on this game!

Avatar image for Halloll

@paul136: Sure it was a good game but it is a heavily dumped down MGS game, with way too much time spent in unskippable heli rides and a goddamn phone game like grinding and resource gathering. I actually enjoyed GZ more simply because it wasn't spread too thin but I wouldn't give either a score higher than 7.

Avatar image for Fuhrer_D

@Halloll: Just going to say you are completely wrong. There is far more in this game than all the other Metal Gears combine, sans peace walker (its a smaller version). 475+ hours in, with 91% done. Even without the "complete" ending. There is more to do in this game than 99% of the games out there.

Avatar image for Halloll

@Fuhrer_D: I wouldn't call "stretched thin" as substance, the game is repetitive as hell.

Avatar image for lostn

What the **** is definitive about this? Definitive is when you modify the game and make a lot of improvements to it, including with graphics. You add new content, you make existing content even better.

If all you're doing is bundling together content that already exists, you are not improving the game or making it definitive in any way. You can already buy all that stuff right now.

Call it Complete edition, or even GOTY edition if you're feeling boastful (it did win at least one GOTY so it passes). Don't call it Definitive edition. If I go and buy all the DLC today, will my copy of the game be Definitive too? If so then you can't use that name. If not, why not?

**** you Konami.

@lostn: Definitive Experience not Edition

Avatar image for lostn

@YohanDeEmercer: And what is Definitive about this "Experience"?

Avatar image for silversix_

Hi. Do you need to be dumb af to believe into the "Definitive Edition" written on the box? Definitive Edition came out on pc a year ago. This is not a definitive edition. This is a milking edition, one that aims at stupid ass gamers.

Avatar image for lostn

@silversix_: If it's $40, it's a fair price. But I agree, DE is a misnomer.
