Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain's multiplayer mode Metal Gear Online will grow in March with the release of a new expansion called "Cloaked in Silence," Konami announced today.

The content of the expansion (three new maps, a new character, and an new action system) was announced last month, but this is the first time it's getting an official name and pricing details.

Cloaked in Silence's new maps are Coral Complex, Rust Palace, and Azure Mountain. Descriptions of these are available below, as written by Konami.

  • Coral Complex: A dedicated Motherbase environment, allowing players to access tall towers and use storage containers and other internal areas as cover for tactical advantage. Coral Complex mixes open areas and a myriad of hiding opportunities.
  • Rust Palace: Set within Afghanistan, the Rust Palace is a large multi-level building. The skeletal nature of the decrepit ruin means that cover is scarce, while the internal areas are rich in dusty rooms and high-up sniping positions.
  • Azure Mountain: An outdoor plain under Africa's baking sky. A small cluster of buildings offers scant cover, with only derelict walls and occasional scrubland surrounding the massive rock known locally as the Cradle of Spirits.

Cloaked in Silence also adds Quiet as a new playable character. As we learned in the campaign, Quiet is an excellent sniper who is also very speedy on the ground. Additionally, she can make use of a temporary cloaking ability and can jump to places that other players need a ladder to get to.

The expansion also comes with a new "Appeal Action" feature. This lets players express themselves with a special pose (battle, dance, hero, etc); up to five can be assigned per character.

Cloaked in Silence will cost $4, while the Appeal Packs will sell for $2 each. The content is coming sometime in March, but a release date has not been announced.

Launching alongside Cloaked in Silence will be a free update for Metal Gear Online that adds a new mission-type called Sabotage. Here's its description:

"Attackers must destroy or fulton an enemy missile before the round expires; but to access the missile, attackers must first hack into the Terminals to deactivate the Electromagnetic (EM) Barrier that is protecting it. Once the Terminals are hacked and the EM Barrier is deactivated, defenders can choose to reactivate the Barrier or protect the Missile."

In other news about The Phantom Pain, Konami announced recently that the celebrated open-world game has now shipped 6 million copies.
