Late last week, the first details on what appeared to be the next installment in Hideo Kojima's influential stealth action series Metal Gear Solid leaked out of Europe. Titled Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, the game was inadvertently revealed in the form of a brief trailer showing the series' main character, Solid Snake, fighting alone against a faceless enemy force deep in a jungle. The game's title isn't figurative, as the trailer opens with Solid Snake literally taking a bite out of a serpent, apparently to sustain himself. Today at the Sony pre-E3 press conference, a company official confirmed that the game will be known as Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and that it will be headed exclusively to the PlayStation 2 sometime in 2004. We'll have more on MGS3: Snake Eater very soon.
