Meryl Streep Joins Big Little Lies Season 2, Will Reportedly Get Paid $800,000 Per Episode

HBO made a huge announcement today about Big Little Lies season 2. Three-time Oscar winner Meryl Streep is coming aboard for the second season in a big role.

According to Variety, Streep will play Mary Louise Wright, the mother of Alexander Skarsgard's character, Perry Wright. Perry died at the end of Season 1. His mother comes to Monterey to try to find out what happened and to take care of her grandchildren.

Variety's sources claim Streep will earn $800,000 per episode on Big Little Lies season 2. It's not clear how this compares to the show's other main cast, including Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Zoe Kravitz, and Adam Scott.

This announcement comes just a day after Streep picked up her 21st (!!!!) Oscar nomination for her leading role in the Steven Spielberg movie The Post. No other actor has as many Oscar nominations as Streep does; she broke her own record with her 21st nomination. She has won three Oscars, for The Iron Lady, Sophie's Choice, and Kramer vs. Kramer.

Big Little Lies premiered in February 2017 on HBO. It was originally described as a miniseries, based on the Liane Moriarty novel of the same name, but the show was so successful that a second season was announced. Given that the events of the book were covered in Season 1, the follow-up will tell a partially new story written by David Kelley.

Season 1 was a huge hit, winning multiple Emmy and Golden Globe awards. There is no word as of yet as to when Big Little Lies season 2 will premiere.
