Megan Fox Is Now in a Video Game
The Transformers and TMNT actress is lending her likeness to the mobile game Stormfall: Rise of Balur.
Mobile and web-based game developer Plarium today announced that it's partnered with Transformers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles actress Megan Fox for the studio's online RPG, the medieval-themed Stormfall: Rise of Balur.
Fox plays the character Amelia Delthanis, the Captain of the High Council Guard. According to the Stormfall fiction, Delthanis is "fierce" and has a "strong-willed demeanor." At a young age, she walked away from her "highborn upbringing" and became a warrior.
Delthanis is the player's mentor and guide in Stormfall, providing instructions and an overview for the game. Her arrival in Stormfall, which Plarium says has 7.5 million registered users, marks just the start of a series of updates. Others in the future will add things like a new tutorial and a fully voiced campaign.
"To be honest, she's kind of a badass," Fox told GameSpot. "She's rebellious, which I love, and has a dark sense of humor. In some ways, she's like me because we're both a little rebellious, except that she gets to wear a medieval fantasy warrior costume."
"We are thrilled to have Megan become the new face for the Stormfall franchise, one of our most beloved games since Stormfall: Age of War came out on social networks in 2011," Plarium marketing VP Gabi Shalel said in a statement. "Megan's experience in other blockbuster franchises and action films means that she will be a great addition to our game."
GameSpot spoke with Fox about her involvement with Stormfall and more. Despite publicly sharing her enthusiasm for video games in the past, she says Plarium was the first to pitch her on a video game role.
While she grew up playing games, she's drifted away since, after becoming a mother. Some of her favorite games are Halo and Uncharted, while she also told us she would be eager to work on another game in the future if given the opportunity. You can read our full interview with Fox below.
Fox is not the first celebrity actress to work with a video game developer on a mobile game. Model Kate Upton and singer Mariah Carey have appeared in Game of War advertisements, including a Super Bowl spot.
You can learn more about Stormfall at the game's website, while you can grab the free game right now on iTunes and Google Play.
GameSpot: Starting off, can you tell us about your history with gaming?
Megan Fox: I grew up playing Super Nintendo and was pretty into the Xbox in my early '20s, before I had kids. Now, I don't get a chance to play because I've become so busy with the kids, but it's something that was a big part of my life growing up.
What about video games do you enjoy and what are some of your favorites?
My favorite was probably Halo or Uncharted. I loved how I could become so immersed in those games.
How did this partnership with Plarium come to be?
I've always wanted to be of a part of something like this, but hadn't ever been pitched before, so when Plarium approached me with the idea, I saw how great the game was and decided it was a good opportunity.
What was your first reaction when you heard the pitch and what was it about Stormfall that convinced you to sign on?
I thought there were some pretty striking similarities between myself and the character and thought the experience would be fun. In fact, I have two nephews who love video games and when I told them about Stormfall, they showed me the game, told me all about it, and how much they like it. Their enthusiasm was what really sold me on it.
What can you tell us about your character, Amelia Delthanis, Captain of the Guard of the High Council?
To be honest, she's kind of a badass. She's rebellious, which I love, and has a dark sense of humor and she acts as a mentor for the gamer.
I read that she captures your likeness and persona so what can fans expect in the area of her demeanor and appearance?
In some ways, she's like me because we're both a little rebellious, except that she gets to wear a medieval fantasy warrior costume.
High-profile actresses and actors appearing in games is becoming a trend today; what do you think of that and would you like to work on/appear in another game in the future?
I had a great time, and again, it was something I had always wanted to do. I think overall it's just an interesting and fun thing to add to my portfolio, so yes, I'd consider doing it again in the future.
Switching gears a bit, video game movies today are becoming more and more popular; if you could play any video game character in a movie, who would it be and why?
I've always wanted to do Tomb raider, but it's been done--and very well. So I guess I'd go with Indiana Jones, since I always loved how fun and free-spirited Indiana is. He's an adventurous rogue archaeologist who barely escapes death chasing down treasures among the earth's most mysterious sites. What's not to love?
