Microsoft has announced Recore, a brand new Xbox One exclusive from Mega Man creator and former Capcom legend Keiji Inafune.

The title, which is published by Microsoft's Game Studios, is also being developed by Comcept and Armature Studios, which previously released Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate and is headed up by staff who formerly worked on Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.

A trailer for Recore was shown during Microsoft's E3 press conference. In it, a female character is seen traversing a desolate desert, hiding from a sandstorm, and eventually reaching the doors of a vault.

The unnamed character is joined by a robot dog. The duo are ambushed by spider-like automatons, who have their cores torn out using a grappling hook. As the core is removed, the spiders crumble. The idea of souls being contained seems to be at the centre of Recore.

Moments later, the robotic canine companion self-destructs to destroy a group of enemies. Its glowing blue core is left behind, but this is placed into another nearby robot, which comes to life.

"Welcome back buddy," says the protagonist. Recore has been given a release date in Spring 2016.
