Medal of Honor: Rising Sun Updated Multiplayer Hands-On Impressions

We play a few multiplayer rounds in EA's latest Medal of Honor game for the PS2.

At Sony's recent press event, we got a chance to play three multiplayer maps in Electronic Arts' Medal of Honor: Rising Sun, the next game in the popular and long-running World War II shooter series. Though still somewhat early, the game's multiplayer seems to be coming together pretty nicely. A variety of WWII-era weapons were available in the demo, such as a shotgun, a BAR, and an M1-Garand rifle, and we fought in a variety of areas, such as a bombed-out village, an ancient temple, and a steamy jungle setting. Graphically, Rising Sun is shaping up to be solid--the models and levels are fairly detailed, and the frame rate remained smooth throughout the demo. The actual action seemed pretty run-of-the-mill as far as deathmatch goes, and it seemed that the game will feature location-based damage as seen in many realistic shooters (we noted that targeting our opponents' heads was more effective than targeting their bodies).

The multiplayer portion of Medal of Honor: Rising Sun is still being fleshed out and tweaked, but it seems like EA has a good foundation on which to build an engaging multiplayer game. Rising Sun is scheduled for release this November.
