Maxis: Sims 4 will run better on lower-end machines than Sims 3

Developer says players on less capable rigs will have "much better experience" with new game compared to past entry.

The Sims fans running lower-end PCs are in luck, as Maxis has confirmed that The Sims 4 will run better on less-capable rigs than The Sims 3.

No Caption Provided

"We're really excited to say that players on lower-end machines are going to have a much better experience on The Sims 4 than they did with The Sims 3," producer Ryan Vaughn told Digital Spy at Gamescom.

Vaughn explained that Maxis understands that not all its players are running high-end machines and said the developer is optimizing the game to ensure players on all rigs are satisfied.

"Right now we're doing a lot of work to optimize the game's performance, cut down on loading screens, and make sure everything still looks as beautiful, the Sims feel as vibrant, and that your gameplay is just as much fun regardless of what spec you're playing on," he said.

Electronic Arts showed off gameplay for The Sims 4 this week at Gamescom. The game introduces emotional states, among other features, that aim to bolster the authenticity of the experience.

The Sims 4 launches for the PC and Mac in 2014. An Internet connection will not be required, as was the case for Maxis' controversial SimCity.

My i7-4810mq, nvidia 860m and 8Gb of ram laptop works just fine on ultra settings. With the exception that you have to manually set up the settings with Optimus, otherwise it will default to the integrated graphics card.

@adrian13sk The demo is actually badly bugged. I was able to play on my laptop but my co-worker wasn't and he has a better laptop then me. I did have the music go crazy on me. When it was suppose to switch songs it didn't and was bugging. This being said I wonder how stable the actual game will be if Simcity and the CAS demo is any indicator.

This is absolute Bull just paid out for a brand new laptop of £400 and it still wont run the sims 4 ! So what they expect people to pay out for brand new CPU's and Graphics cards so much for being better on lower grade systems every year this gets worse your making customers pay over priced games with content that is not fully there the only game that was half decent and was a big step up was the sims 2 cant actually believe @EAGames ! I have been a loyal fan from the very beginning and this is what I get back in return thanks, I will be buying this product the day I become rich !!!

Seriously EA need to get their shit together. My HighEnd PC lags so much. It can run other games fine on ultra but Sims 3 stutters so much. I am still going to get Sims 4, just hope they fix the problems.

PC Specs:

P9X79 PRO MOTHERBOARD

XFX BLACK EDITION 7970 3GB GDDR5

i7-3820 CPU

32GB CORSAIR VENGEANCE PRO RAM

Can anyone tell me how my computer is. These are the specs:

Processor: Intel Core Duo 2 E7500 2.93 GHz

RAM: 2 GB

Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 610

So, how is it? I've played Skyrim on Mid, AC 2 and Brotherhood on High, Sims 3 Low/Mid. They say here Sims 4 will be easier to play in terms of software. So if I can play Sims 3 now without lag at that state, I can play Sims 4 probably?

@shrosli In comparison to the highest rig that is petty low. The highest is this. Intel i7 excluding the extreme because they are usually so expensive that only hardcore gamers would get. 32Gb of Ram. Geforce TitanZ which is quite a gap from your graphics card. Just go to their websites and you can get caught up with where your hardware is in the line up. top of the line should let you play anything at top graphics

@shrosli Don't mean to bother. However, my Graphics card died on me recently. So, I had borrow one. and I've been look at the NVIDIA GeForce GT 610, NVIDIA GeForce GT 620 and Maybe nvidia geforce gt 630. So, I can play Sims 3 and some video again again and hopeful Sims 4. I do plan on saving up for something bit stronger. However, I just want something to hold me over in the mean time. While am saving up .and was wondering how your NVIDIA GeForce GT 610 handles games? or would recommend me going with 620. am a bit iffy on the 630. Cause, I do plan on replace the NVIDIA GeForce down the road with another NVIDIA card. What would you suggest?

@AnimeZer0 @shrosli Do not go with a gt 610/620/630. They are not real gaming cards. If you have at least a 300w power supply, pick up a GTX 750 or GTX 750ti. They are the fastest you can get without needing an external power connector.

@shrosli Get 4GB, it will be enough yet at least until 2016-2017 at max settings and such... then if you have 4gb you will be ok with medium-high settings, maybe some ultra settings too, idk

Ima laugh when EA's def of "Low End" is actually i3 and 8GB ram. The SIms 3 ran absolutely horrid even if you maxed out the recommended specs.

@francescosacco You call that a graphics card? Integrated graphics in the newest AMD and Intel processors is faster than that.

@kremkaffe Late reply but oh well. Depends on the Celeron. A celeron from 2007 was able to max out Dead Space 3 using a 1GB graphics card and 4GB ram lol.

I'd like it if we could spend less than 5 sim hours waiting for them to go potty and flush the toilet. I'm so tired of the fake sim hours going by so fast the sims can't even get down their own stairs in less than an hour.

Sims 3 can't even run on Higher End PC's. The developers have still not fixed many of the bugs that plague the game such as the load times and random crashes, also the fact that game runs even slower when you add more content, and not just mods, but their own store content (which I may or may not have acquired with a yo ho ho and a bottle of rum). Let's not forget the gameplay freeze issue, apparently it's because of a path finding bug with a sim somewhere in your world that a mod can sort of fix, but I shouldn't have to rely on mods to fix shit that EA should have fixed everytime they release the money grabbing expansion packs which slows your game down even more I might add.

I have a high end PC that can run games like Crisis 2 and The Witcher 2 on Very High (close to Ultra even, but even on very high they still look beautiful) Specifications. I cannot run the Sims 3 without lag, crashing, freezes, long load times, and yet I can run their previous iterations perfectly... Fix your shit EA!

@theextraguy BS, then it is the copy of your game. If you can run Witcher 2 you can run nearly anything. That is one of the most demanding games on pc. Same goes for Crisis series. I can't even play Witcher 2 on my laptop at low graphics but I can play mass effect 3 at medium high and other similar games at medium. I can play the new simcity etc.

@maaaddi24 RIGHT??? I gave up after University Life rendered my game unplayable, much like Seasons made most Mac users' (I skipped Seasons in the hopes of avoiding the game crashing more than once every couple of hours, only to have those hopes dashed by University Life). Can they get Aspyr back on board to help out with this??

If they have even a single person in common that has worked for SimCity, the game will be a disaster.

I just recently bought an alienware m14 gaming laptop, and the sims 3 runs perfectly fine on it... Haven't installed any expansions, only one that interests me really is seasons and late night... I know that when I was playing it on my old rig, as soon as I installed pets, wow, the problems and fps probs, but that was a shit lappy, so I dunno, but am going to avoid pets anyway on my m14.

Probablly because of 1 of 2 reasons.

1) They are running on a modified sims3 engine meaning that by todays standards a lower end PC was really a high end PC when sims3 originally was out.

2) They learned how to optimize the damn thing because sims3 ran like shit on a lot pretty nice rigs in its day.

Funny how my rig can handle Crysis 3 well on high settings, but Sims 3 Pets lags like a b****. Hopefully the new version will be at least much better optimized than *cough* GTA4 *cough*.

@DiscGuru101 Yeah, really. My computer runs on a Core i7 @ 3.2 ghz, X58 mobo, GTX 660, and 12 GB RAM, yet Sims 3 still has fps problems. Even Hitman Absolution on ultra can run better than this.

@Hdhannandon1 @JustBeYourself Like the original creators said, they said it was easier to have a gibberish language for localisation and they said having any language would become too repetitive.

I think it's a stupid Idea to get rid of this iconic language of Simlish. What's wrong with it anyway?

Okay, that's true. I wouldn't mind at all, although I'm sure the publisher / developers would seriously mind the localization expenses and logistics. I wonder how much of their sales are worldwide?

Sims 3 takes ages to load on my rig I have the base game installed along with about 9 expansions 2 are light ones High end loft stuff and outdoor living stuff. I have all my games installed on a 500GB drive as my Win 7 is on a 128GB SSD and yet I have another 5 games installed with 350GB free and Sims 3 still takes a good 5 mins to load up. In Sims 4 the need to solve that issues on low/high end rigs and solve the issue where people and cars get stuck somewhere in the city/town and cause your games to lag so much.

@xeoneex66 No. Read this. "Right now we're doing a lot of work to optimize the game's performance, cut down on loading screens, and make sure everything still looks as beautiful, the Sims feel as vibrant, and that your gameplay is just as much fun regardless of what spec you're playing on," Ryan Vaughn said.

@kamranmackey I have many issues with the new instalment but to claim that it looks like or worse then sims 3 is a false claim. It is improved but the problem is that it still looks or looks even more cartoonish. Im not buying the game if they make pools an expansion because that is a great indicator that they lied about it being difficult to do and just thought that it would be a good idea to make one of the past base features DLC.
