Maximum Charisma Studios has officially announced its upcoming online strategy and role-playing game, Fighting Legends. Formerly known as Project TROG, Fighting Legends attempts to blend the persistent online worlds of massively multiplayer role-playing games with gameplay elements traditionally found in strategy games. For the strategy aspects of the game, you are required to build a base, harvest raw materials, and build individual units. As the game progresses, you can upgrade individual units and structures in the traditional tech-tree style, as well as construct walls and towers around your base so you have a better chance of surviving an enemy attack. As for the role-playing aspects of the game, you have the opportunity to go on different quests by yourself or with allies, and you can enhance individual units by gaining experience and acquiring the power-up items that are scattered across the terrain. In addition, individual units can specialize in specific kung-fu attacks to make them more efficient fighters, and there are plenty of non-player characters to interact with.

Fighting Legends definitely has a unique appearance. Instead of going for a realistic style, Fighting Legends' visuals have a distinct cartoon look, making the game stand out from the current crop of strategy and role-playing games. Fans of first-person shooters should feel right at home with Fighting Legends' controls, as the game uses the traditional first-person shooter control scheme, but it moves at a slower pace to accommodate the amount of action occurring onscreen.

Fighting Legends is currently in beta testing, and you can sign up for the beta at the official Maximum Charisma beta registration page. The game is slated for release in the fall of 2001. For more information, visit the official Fighting Legends Web site.
