Westlake Interactive has announced that Max Payne for the Macintosh has reached final candidate stage. The game is now awaiting approval from MacSoft, Infogrames' Macintosh division, and it is scheduled for release next month.

Max Payne was released in July 2001. The game, which lets players assume the role of an undercover cop on a mission to destroy a mafia network in New York City, features an innovative bullet-time feature that lets players perform cinematic slow-motion action sequences. It received a number of awards, including GameSpot's Readers' Choice PC Game of the Year for 2001. Max Payne has also been released on the Sony PlayStation 2 and Microsoft Xbox, and it has shipped more than 2.75 million copies worldwide. Max Payne 2, the upcoming sequel to the game, was announced last month at E3. For more information, take a look at our previous coverage of the game.
