Max Payne coming to the silver screen

This seems to be the year of movies based on video games, as another game will be turned into a movie: Finnish developer Remedy Entertainment's Max Payne.

An entry in the Max Payne PC game manual reveals that Dimension Films and Collision Entertainment are creating a movie based on the game. While none of the parties involved have made any official announcements, the information was included in the "thanks for playing" section of the Max Payne manual.

"Don't worry, you'll be seeing more of Max in the future," the manual reads. "Dimension Films and Collision Entertainment are teaming up to make a feature film based on Max Payne, and further adventures of this character are already in the works."

This year, video games have received a lot of interest from filmmakers. Tomb Raider starring Angelina Jolie had a successful run at the box office, Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within recently arrived at theatres worldwide, and Richard Donner, director of the Lethal Weapon movies, will be working on a movie based on Crazy Taxi. Hollywood seems to be looking for more and more content originating in the video games industry.

Dimension Films has worked on such films as Scream, Scream 2, Existenz, The Faculty, Scary Movie, Scary Movie 2, and Nightwatch. In terms of the Max Payne game series, Remedy Entertainment has repeatedly stated that it doesn't see Max Payne as a single game, but rather as an evolving franchise. The original game will make its debut on the Sony PlayStation 2 later this year. The PC version of the game is out now.
