BioWare's highly anticipated RPG Mass Effect: Andromeda will not have a Season Pass for DLC.

BioWare GM Aaryn Flynn confirmed this and more on Twitter today (via DualShockers). Asked directly if Andromeda would have a Season Pass, Flynn succinctly stated, "Nope."

Pressed for more details, like whether there will be story DLC, if it will be free, or if Andromeda's DLC will be limited to multiplayer, Flynn said, "We'll talk more about that later :)"

EA's Titanfall 2 also does not have a Season Pass.

Also today, Flynn confirmed on Twitter that Andromeda will not be available in Arabic, at least not at launch. Additionally, Mass Effect's Twitter account confirmed that, like most other EA games, EA Access members will get to play Andromeda early.

Andromeda launches on March 21 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. For lots more on the game, check out all of GameSpot's previous coverage here.

I dont see why this is a big deal. I spend so many hours on ME games without ever touching the DLC's. Easily worth the money paid for it. Maybe twice over. A season pass and microtransactions or overpriced DLC is not going to change that. People just get butthurt to quickly these days and dont think twice before they start swinging their arms all over the place. Its like that kid that didnt get the right present for christmas. Its sad really...

No surprise here. This is EA we are talking about. Just look at Dragon Age. No Season Pass and DLC so expensive it cost the same as a full game. It was cheaper to buy the GOTY Edition than to pay for the DLC.

Only an idiot would be ok or happy about this. I'd prefer paying the usual $30 or even $40 for all future DLC than pay $15 to $20 a piece. This is almost as "good" as the collector's editions without the actual games in them. Kudos EA!

I hate this comment section nobody has anything good to say

I personally love this approach the season pass crap was a joke here is a stripped down version of our game for $60 and heres the other half for $50

Maybe they actually took note of cd project reds business model (which everybody loved) and will give us quality content in which we can pick and choose what we would like

I may be wrong, i cant see the future but this news gives me hope that eas "put the player first" model may be legit. I mean i will personally buy gta6 when its release in 2021 without a single peice of news or review because i trust rockstar and that is a powerful thing

@brandan1515: Obviously you are very confused to put EA even in the same sentence with CD Projekt. Last released Bioware game was Dragon Age. How many pieces of free DLC have they released with that game? (None is the answer). All the DLC for Dragon Age came out to $60. CD Projekt gave out over 15 pieces of DLC and then released to expansions, which could be purchased as a season pass for a discount. They would also never release a Collector's Edition of a game without the game. Only EA to think of this garbage. Get your facts straight.

@brandan1515: Quality content? lol no, this is EA. At best, they will release free multiplayer content to trick casuals into buying more microtransactions.

After the ME3 ending I can't get excited about anything related to this universe.. And it's sad because it was one of my favorite universes/sagas in games and one of the best that appeared in last generation.

But I have the same feeling about Assassin's Creed.. after AC3 I never played any game on that franchise.. I even bought AC4, but never played..

    @arlonborges:

I have never understood this viewpoint and never will. I know all about the "they lied" issue but they really didn't. The endings are not identical. The endings were a huge issue over at the BSN but anything is an issue there. The original ending was a bit rushed and vague but IMO the EC fixed it.

@solidsnake7882: Dude, I like to play games mostly for the history, and it's not just the lack of choice in the ending that destroyed the game for me, it's how the ending was done... was a cheap exit.. there's no actual choice, and there's zero impact after all choices and consequences that have been happening for 3 whole games (since we could import our saves).. It's like they didn't knew how to end that epic saga, and in the and all the deaths, all the battles, all the choices had no impact in the final outcome.. as if it was a lost battle from the beginning (and I would be ok with this approach if done right) that you spent 3 games and many hours for nothing..

To me, it felt like those kind of movies that all you watched was a dream.. it's a weak way of doing things.. And the transition from the 2nd to the 3rd game was poorly done..

@arlonborges: I wasn't a big fan of how they didn't let you keep the same cast of characters throughout the games. I know people have to die here and there, but when the game won't let you continue with the surviving characters and forces you to play with a new cast (minus the lead character Shepard), it feels like a slap in the face.

It made going from game to game less impactful having to play with different people

    Avatar image for arlonborges
    arlonborges

@titang1: Actually the whole transition between games wasn't that smooth.. Like when we couldn't play with Ashley in the second game, but in the 3rd one she was back on the team, while Miranda wasn't there anymore. But for me the whole 3rd game was killed by that shitty ending... the sense of despair to save the galaxy and defeat the reapers.. and even worse to me, the Reapers, an allegedly intelligent and "superior" race that uses life in the galaxy as their source of "food", now are just tools to some sort of god to rebalance life?... the whole conclusion was shit to me... and sadly it made me lost interest in the whole franchise..

Why is this a big deal? No ME game has had season passes and has offered great dlc. On the complaint about micro transactions in the game the only ones ME 3 had were MP related. Also aside from mobile games I can't think of a single console or PC game that is pay to win. This game looks great.

Couldn't care less about the lack of a season pass because it doesn't make any difference. I bet the game is going to have paid single-player DLCs and free multiplayer DLCs but with microtransactions, a la ME3.

Part of EA's core business model is to earn money from the player after they have already bought the game through DLC/season passes and microtransactions. Im sure this game will have some way to make money off us after launch maybe even stick it in after like Garden Warfare 2 did with cosmetic microtransactions.

"Talk about that later". Well EA here's hoping your dlc is similar to GTA5's method. Nope to a season pass might sound good but my scepticism tells me that we're just gonna be charged more for the obvious dlc when it arrives. Sorry to sound so negative but the game industry can be a cruel mistress.

Free dlcs , no season pass, that's the right direction or no dlc at all tbh just complete the game. Every damn game comes with dlc Before the games are released, it's like they made a game n then they strip it down n sell it in parts, Im tired of that.

@yogibbear: I remember ME2 was free to download last week on PC. No discounts on the DLC could have something to do with that?

@yogibbear: Calm down mate. This really isn't that important. If the reviews are good and you want the game then buy it and enjoy it. If the reviews are poor and / or you don't want the game, then don't. Easy.

1080p version for xb1 is another $45.95 "dlc". It has higher resolution but removes most of the textures, mapping, lighting, and particle effects, increases fog also.

Those Tweets are interesting. Seeing as most of the Arabic speaking world doesn't even allow games like Mass Effect in their country. I know there are Arabic speaking people living in the rest of the world but doesn't a language option usually dictate the allowable release countries?

@ef56sd: while most of us don't want to come across as whiny communists I think the issue is that we just get hacked off for paying full whack for what should be a complete and finished product and then being charged more when it's obvious otherwise.

@ef56sd: No one asked for free shit, they asked for a cheaper version of upgrading to the goty edition due to the fact that it's cheaper to buy the game + all it's dlc than it is to just buy the dlc, that's shitty.

My opinion :There is so much downloadable content that they would make more if they released as single purchases. It's very rare to get a full game with just the cost of the base game, Lets hope Mass Effect doesn't go down like what EA is doing with Battlefield.

Such whiners and complainers. As long as a game is feature complete, why care what is locked behind DLC? Stop looking at the past with rose colored glasses. AAA games today, while sometimes lacking in originality (sequelitis) are as good, if not better than games from 5-10 years ago. Unless you have a penchant for anything retro, or a certain style of game that characterised a game era. Which is perfectly fine, obviously.

    Avatar image for consolehaven

@novaprime1985: Actually, I don't purchase DLC. Well, very little of it. Maybe $40 worth since DLC started. Take a long hard look at average game length, content and quality of the assets, and you'll realize that most games offer a lot more bang for your buck than 5-10-15 years ago even. efore MT and DLC is factored in. I have yet to play a regular priced game (don't reall. play MP games) that offers DLC or micro transactions, that I felt the progress was artificially slowed by micro transactions. I don't need additional guns, xp boosts, skins, side missions etc. The only people DLC and Micro transactions hurt are those who buy them compulsively and can't afford them.
