Mass Effect: Andromeda Will Have Day One Patch, Full Game's File Size Revealed

BioWare shares new details.

With Mass Effect: Andromeda due to launch in just a few more weeks, developer BioWare has now confirmed more details about it. According to DualShockers, BioWare's Ian Frazier said on Twitter that a "good portion" of the development team is still at work on the day-one patch. The game went gold on Friday, meaning the studio has completed the initial development on the game.

This patch should be up and ready by the time Andromeda launches for EA Access and Origin Access, five days before the game comes out on March 21. Producer Michael Gamble cautioned that nothing is set in stone as of yet, so plans could change.

BioWare also confirmed that Andromeda's file size on PS4 and Xbox One is "at least 45, not more than 60" gigabytes. On PC, the file size is apparently 55 GB. You can see the PC requirements here.

Andromeda launches on March 21 for all platforms. You may not have to wait that long to play, however, as a multiplayer beta is expected to launch at some point before then.

In the meantime, check out our latest preview of Andromeda and chat with BioWare about the size of the game.

About double the available internal storage of the Switch. Now we see why it's not getting AAA multi platform games. Or any multiplats unless they were Vita/3DS games or low budget PS4 games.

@lostn: Switch uses cartridges and has a microSD slot... which means games wont have to be installed on the console to run.

@isimitaiwo: Well a 64GB wouldn't be enough obviously. Anything bigger is too expensive just to make it functional as a digital device.

@lostn: true, but we know sooner or later these SDs will be cheap, and really the cartridges aren't much of a problem, they are small.

@Skinon: Get an adblocker. It blocks the video entirely. Turn it off when you want to see a video. You will have to watch Sportsline ad though.

Or you can search their youtube channel for the video which gets rid of the problem.

that's why I respect developers like guerilla and naughty dog, I played uncharted 4 fully without a day one patch no problem and horizon also runs perfectly (according to various sites) in the base PS4

@baral-o: I have the Pro and a base PS4 - Got the Darth Vader one when it came out. It is so great when a company respects both older and new hardware hey? I wish all PS4 titles were made like this.

I am thinking of buying 2 extra copies and sending one each to Square and From Soft and show them what a game looks like with perfect framepacing. With a note ''Get your act together you have had plenty of time''.

Meh devs should stop making physical discs all together. Haters gonna hate but the last game i bought physical was Fallout 3 about 10 years ago, lots of less plastic is eventually good for everyone.

And i guess more then 90% of the people playing games have reasonably fast internet connections these days, i can download 50gb in less then couple of hours and i am living in a 3rd world country. Not to mention almost every big game release gives you atleast 2 days to preload so there is absolutely no reason to buy physical discs unless you have some kind of fascination with plastics covers and fancy printed manuals.

@serialkisser: I'm still finding most games (ps3/4/vita) cheaper physical than digital, in some occasions up to 50 to 70 % cheaper, some games on PS4 and especially vita stay at full price for far to long on PSN. this is why 8 out of 10 games I buy are physical

@serialkisser: I live in a first world country, and it takes me about 4 hours to download a file that size. For many people it takes much longer than that. Personally, I buy a mix of digital and physical. If it's a game I know I'll probably only play through once, I will usually go physical so that I can trade it in or sell it. Also, some people do enjoy collecting physical copies and displaying them.

I fail to comprehend why people have such a problem with a day one patch. Game goes gold, developer discovers some missed bugs, so they immediately fire day one patch to fix it, so you can enjoy the product. What is wrong with that? Its common sense. No game ever will be without bugs and I for one am glad those are getting patched asap.

@stroncium: It's because they remember the days before consoles connected to the internet and developers had no way to update games once they were released. You bought the game and it worked. Today, developers can go the "ship-then-patch" route for consoles just like they've been doing forever for PC's.

@ninjaroach81: The thing is the games are getting more and more complex with new technology and what they can do, so obviously the more things have to work, the bigger the chance is something will break. So I am open minded where it comes to launch patching. There of course some rather disturbing cases like Fallout 4 launch. The game was so bugged you could not finish a MAIN! mission because Undeground Undercover quest took a month to get patched. Now that is really annoying and almost unforgivable. Yet the game was so amazing (at least in my opinion), and I had so much fun I got over it and I keep playing it even today. I have high hopes for Andromeda.

@stroncium: Don't get me wrong, I personally have no problem with Day One patches; I was an exclusive PC gamer for a while back in the late '90's-early '00's (yes, I'm dating myself; don't judge!), so patches after launch are nothing new to me. I was referring to the gamers who's first experience with game patches were during the PS3/X360 era. Before that, games couldn't be updated after release, so the idea of fixing a game after release probably came as a bit of a shock to them! (unless ,of course, they had any experience with PC gaming; then it'd be "Eh, big deal...")

terrible game before release , day 1 patch crap again? , and obsoletely no optimization game is almost 60 gb. I'll pass tired of this crap from Bethesda EA activation and Bioware. they are not the best AAA devs they make crappy games 90% of the time that appeal to white straight mail Angelo saxon americans.

@Morphine_OD: I think that's Liam; a member of Ryder's squad and a potential love interest if your Ryder is female.

Speaking of race, why is it such a big deal to some gamers ? Chill out people. Both male and female Ryder are white. Satisfied ? So what if there are some black characters in video games.

@pasullica: Nobody is pushing homosexual relations... its there, you have it if you want.

Don`t try to justify your lack of courage of giving into your deep desires by saying it is forced on you.

About black people... Funny that you fail to realize all other human characters in games that are not black are... WHITE.

So if someone is getting special treatment, its white people.... And now things are getting more equal for everyone.

Those changes should not bother anyone unless the person is racist and a homophobe.

@pasullica: Come on my friend... nobody gave deliberate attention to black characters. In the case of Mafia 3, they told a story about African Americans struggling with racism in the South back in the 60s. Blacks played a major role in both World Wars and if you ignore that fact, you are a racist of the highest proportion. In the Mass Effect universe, we are speaking of "humanity" interacting with aliens. Don't Black people make up a significant portion of "humanity" ? or is it only Whites in your imaginary world ?

@Starhopper4: Rarerichz is absolutely right. Didn't White males makes up a majority of lead protagonists in most video games ? Including Japanese ones ! From Marcus Fenix (Gears of War) to most main characters in the Assassin's Creed series, Nathan Drake from Uncharted series, Duke Nukem, and the list goes on. I could actually count the number of games involving a lead Black character because they have been ignored for the most part. By the way, Mass Effect series has always had a default lead White protagonist. Thank God for their character creation feature cause the Male Ryder looks like Cullen from DAI.

@starjay009: white males make up the most protagonists in games because that's the demographic that buys the most games, especially games like Mass effect. They also make up the most antagonists too.
