Marvel's multiverse-hopping animated series returns for two more seasons.

In some universes, Marvel Studios made just one season of What If...? But what if... Marvel made two more seasons of its speculative fiction show? That's what's happening here in our universe. What If...? Season 2 is coming in early 2023, with a third season to follow, Marvel Studios announced at Comic-Con today.

While the trailer is still a Comic-Con exclusive, word has leaked about some of the scenarios we can look forward to. Scenes shown included Steve Rogers as the Winter Soldier; a battle between Shang-Chi characters and Thor's old man, Odin; Iron Man finding himself stuck on Sakaar (the trash planet from Thor: Ragnarok), and an episode based on Neil Gaiman's 1602 limited series.

What If...? Season 1 included stories about T'Challa as Star-Lord, Peggy Carter taking Steve's place as the Super Soldier, and more. One episode placed the heroes in a zombie apocalypse, slowly succumbing to the relentless hordes. That is now being spun off into its own Marvel Zombies series.

While What If...? Season 2 is coming in early 2023, the also-announced Season 3 doesn't yet have a release date. Along with What If...? Seasons 2 and 3, and Marvel Zombies, Marvel Studios also announced a bunch of other animated shows and features on the way. We can look forward to a series of five shorts called I Am Groot, X-Men '97, and Spider-Man: Freshman Year, coming in 2023 and beyond.
