Marvel's Thor: Ragnarok Will Feature Doctor Strange

Cumber's back.

Doctor Strange will appear in the upcoming Marvel sequel Thor: Ragnarok. It had been previously rumored that Benedict Cumberbatch would reprise his role as the mystical sorcerer, and it has now been confirmed by Disney.

The studio's official fansite D23 revealed the news in a preview of upcoming 2017 movies. It reads: "If you need even more intergalactic, world-saving action, Thor: Ragnarok in November brings together Thor, the Hulk, and Doctor Strange to face off against intergalactic baddies both familiar and new."

In August, Strange's appearance was teased by an on-set image that showed star Chris Hemsworth holding a business card containing Stephen Strange's New York address.

Last month it was confirmed that Thor: Ragnarok would take inspiration from Planet Hulk, a comic book series in which Hulk battles monsters on the alien planet Sakaar. Director Taiki Waititi told Total Film that Sakaar would be one of the movie's main locations. "Sakaar was just an insane, far-off futuristic place which was the biggest shift for the film and these characters," he said.

Mark Ruffalo will play Hulk's alter ego Bruce Banner once more, and the movie's impressive cast also includes the likes of Cate Blanchett, Karl Urban, and Jeff Goldblum. Blanchett is rumored to be playing the villainous Hela, while Goldblum will portray immortal games-playing Grandmaster.

Loki actor Tom Hiddleston will also be making a return to the Marvel universe in the film. Hiddleston hasn't appeared in a Marvel film since 2013's Thor: The Dark World. He did shoot a cameo for last year's Avengers: Age of Ultron, but this was ultimately cut.

Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters on November 3, 2017.
