Marvel's next big superhero movie, Eternals, is tracking for a big opening at the box office that is yet another sign of strength and resurgence of the traditional moviegoing experience.

Deadline reports that Eternals picked up $2.6 million in pre-sales over its first 24 hours, which is 86% better than Shang-Chi ($1.4 million) and 30% better than Black Widow ($2 million). Tickets for Eternals went on sale on Monday and all comparisons are for the first 24 hours of sales.

The site said AMC's pre-sales alone for the first 24 hours are the "largest day one sales so far this year."

Eternals is directed by Oscar-winning Nomadland director Chloe Zhao, and it features a big cast of top talent including Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Gemma Chan, Salma Hayek, Kit Harington, and Kumail Nanjiani, among others.

The full box office predictions for Eternals' first weekend in the US aren't available yet, but it will likely be compared to other MCU November releases. These have included Thor: Rangnarok ($122.7 million), Thor: The Dark World ($85.7 million), and Doctor Strange ($85 million). Those movies released years ago before the pandemic.

Eternals releases in theaters on November 5.
