Marvel To Re-Release Avengers: Endgame With New After-Credits Footage In Theaters

GameSpot may receive revenue from affiliate and advertising partnerships for sharing this content and from purchases through links.

Endgame never ends.

Although an official announcement from Marvel has still not been made, further details about the Avengers: Endgame re-release continue to come out. It has been confirmed that this version will feature new post-credit footage rather than scenes edited into the movie. Marvel boss Kevin Feige told Screenrant that "there'll be a deleted scene, a little tribute, and a few surprises." This version of Endgame releases on June 28. A since-deleted Cinemark listing suggesting the tribute would be for the late Stan Lee, as you might expect, but that has since disappeared, so we're still largely in the dark about what the new footage will consist of.

The movie previously did not have any after-credits scene of note, which is unusual for a Marvel movie. However, in the weeks after its release, a trailer for the upcoming Spider-Man: Far From Home--which deals directly with the fallout of Endgame--was tacked onto the conclusion of the film. If you decide to head to theaters for a fresh Endgame viewing, here are some things to keep an eye out for.

Now Playing: Avengers: Endgame Coming Back To Theaters With New After-Credits Footage - GS Universe News Update

Avengers: Endgame isn't just the most financially successful Marvel film of all the time--it's also the longest. The final running time of Endgame is 181 minutes, 32 minutes longer than Avengers: Infinity War. But superhero fans who feel that even that wasn't enough are in luck--Marvel boss Kevin Feige has revealed that the movie is set to return to theaters with even more footage.

In an interview with comicbook.com, Feige confirmed that an even longer version of the movie would arrive very soon. "We are doing that," he said. "I don't know if it's been announced. And I don't know how much [new footage]... Yeah, we're doing it next weekend."

Obviously, Feige is light on details, and an official announcement about an extended Endgame is yet to be made. But a rerelease could be what the movie needs to overtake James Cameron's Avatar to become the most successful film of all time. Avatar made $2.78 billion at the worldwide box office back in 2009, with Endgame having made $2.74 billion to date.

While we don't know what the extra footage will contain, directors Joe and Anthony Russo have previously spoken about some of the material that was cut from the final edit. These include an awkward exchange between Thor and Valkyrie and an appearance from 13 Reasons Why star Katherine Langford as the grown-up version of Tony Stark's daughter Morgan. In addition, there are a few moments in the movie's trailers that didn't make it to the version of Endgame seen in theaters.

The next Marvel release is Spider-Man: Far From Home, which hits theaters on July 5 (although the first showings in the US come earlier in the week due to the 4th of July holiday, just days after Endgame returns to theaters). For more, check out GameSpot's look at its enigmatic new character, the 20 best (and worst) Spider-Man Funko Pops, and what the cast knew about Endgame's ending.

Firmly of the opinion that there is no film that isn't improved by the addition of an exploding head or kung-fu zombie.

I wish if Marvel would have added some tech-related features or some kind of weapons to the official costume of the Superheroes in Endgame which was the original inspiration for the Avengers Endgame Quantum Realm Leather Jacket. This would have looked quite cool, no?

To be honest I'd be down to see the movie again but this just cheapens it. I'll wait for Netflix to have it, no thanks Disney

@cherub1000: Yeah it would be easy to just pay for your monthly subscription and enjoy other movies as well alongside rather than just dedicating your self to only 1 movie. Recently opted for the Spectrum connection from localcabledeals.com and it works like a charm not only i can enjoy the TV it offers the best WIFI and the phone as well

Yeah let me go sit through 3 hours of shit just to watch one new end credit scene. Only the marvel fanboys will support this because they’re so pathetically desperate to topple avatar.

just pathetic Disney and Marvel. so bummed you didnt beat avatar so your resorting to cheep tactics to try and beat it. well maybe your movie wasnt so great, maybe cause u ruined 12 year build up with the chit filled ending. turning captain america in to a selfish person and stealing / stalking his ex from a crippled war hero. or a final fight scene with it all over the place. almost like a scene jump force game scene. i liked infinity war but end game was a big pile of crap.

@jcwainc: Don't know how its a "cheap tactic" when they're even the playing field with avatar, tht also had a rerelease 8 months after, with an extended version....
(and tht rerelease roughly made $40million total worldwide)

Regardless of when they occurred, I suspect the Avatar and Titanic re-releases were ultimately done to make additional money. While it is clear what Disney is attempting to do with the (very) minimal amount of footage being added to the Endgame credits, no additional footage at all was added to the most recent Titanic re-release, visual and audio improvements notwithstanding. Re-releases aside, Endgame clearly topped Titanic when counting the original box office receipts for the initial release only and would have likely (at least) matched Avatar. In the end, Gone with the Wind is still (by far) the all-time box office leader with inflation considered. Not certain why box office numbers did not simply count actual ticket sales from the beginning...

Ugh. Why bother? I wouldn’t watch it at the theaters again even if it were free! I didn’t even watch it again when it came out of Netflix... maybe good for people who haven’t watched it the first time ‘round...

Wow, that's pretty cheap just because they couldn't beat Avatar. I'll never understand the appeal of Avatar, I thought it was absolute crap, but if you need a rerelease to beat it's box office, that should always have an asterisk next to it.

In other words they have like 30 seconds of deleted scenes and they call it new footage to trick people into seeing it again. Man, Disney has sunk pretty damn low to try and beat Avatar's amazing sales.

They should have done something like with Lord of The Rings and add like 30 minutes of more content which would be worth seeing Avengers again. I don't at all care to see a movie in theaters again for some stupid deleted scenes which are already leaking into Youtube.

It's really sad that they're trying so hard to take the spot by cheating and trying to re-release the movie again. Honestly, if you re-release something it should be counted as a new release and not the same release. It's a stupid ass loop hole companies can get away with.
At least Avatar did a re-release but it was years later with actual bonus footage and this was after they're already in the top spot.

@Decoy77: They did not. This is just a desperate attempt to take it. And it will work - they only need ~US$30M more to beat Avatar. Not inflation adjusted of course; taking that into account Gone With the Wind is still easily the undisputed #1 with US$3.7B and Avatar safely at #2 with US$3.3B.

So here’s the thing, the movie was good and all but I’m expected to sit through a three hour movie just to see additional footage in the end credits???

I was born during the day but not yesterday, I will wait for the blu-ray.

Honestly the movie was a fun watch but I wouldn't pay to see it again no where near as good as Infinity War, we never saw Thanos fight with all the stones and there were zero consequences when it came to time travel. I was expecting some big twist that would discourage them from resorting to time travel every time they have a villain they can't beat in the future (Thanos jumping through time wasn't a consequence as they killed him with minimal losses).

@gamingdevil800 Sigh, they didn't time travel. There's no such thing as time travel and they expalined that in the movie. They didn't travel through time, they traveled to parallel universes. The science was still a mess, but it wasn't time travel. When Captain America goes to live with his girl that was a different universe, not a different time in ours.:

@loveblanket: I agree and the difference between parallel universes they can do sosome damage in that universe but not in the universe they left as messing with the timeline can be harmful does not apply.

@loveblanket: Ok so if they didn’t do it to break anyone else’s records, fine, whatever, so what... So then for the purposes of counting the highest grossing box office film, if you take those re-release sales away from Avatar and Titanic and only consider their original releases, which is the highest grossing film?

Regardless of the intent of the re-release, if Avatar and Titanic are allowed to consider box office totals from original AND re-releases, then it’s fair end-game

@cajunstrike: Avatar and Titanic didn't do it to simply become the highest selling movies as they were already. They did it like a lot of big movies do years later to add footage never seen before. Or just to show the footage in the big screen.

Disney is just trying to deal with the fact that they're not good at everything and can't stand to not be first at everything. It's also pretty messed up of Disney to do this like a week before Spiderman releases... let's take your money again for the same movie then again for Spiderman! The actual **** Disney.

It makes sense, Endgame was the END of this story, the end of many of these characters. To just tack on an extra scene setting up the next chapter lessons the impact. Plus it'll net them a ton of extra money lol, smart thinking.

@jedijax Generation Outrage in full effect here. They're rereleasing a film. If you don't want to go see it then don't, but it's there if some people do. And I hate to break it to you Captain Offended, but it was a cash grab when it came out the first time. These aren't charities, they're businesses. Congrats on taking firm hold of the obvious.:
