Marvel Boss Had This One Condition He Required For Hugh Jackman To Come Back In Deadpool And Wolverine

Director Shawn Levy says Kevin Feige had one specific requirement.

Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige apparently had one specific condition that he wouldn't budge on for Hugh Jackman to return as Wolverine in Deadpool & Wolverine. Director Shawn Levy said during a recent promotional event attended by ComicBook that Feige wanted him to wear yellow spandex.

"He said, 'Yes, but he wears the yellow. Can he finally wear the yellow?'"" he said. "And we began."

Feige has a long history with Wolverine and Jackman, as Feige worked on the movie that introduced the world to Jackman's Wolverine--2000's X-Men.

Also during the event, Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds said he had been lobbying for a Deadpool / Wolverine crossover movie for years, but he said Feige told him, "Forget it. It's never going to happen."

Reynolds apparently made his peace with that. Together with Levy, they came up with a series of different pitches for a new Deadpool movie, but nothing ever panned out--that was, until Jackman announced he would not in fact retire as Wolverine after Logan and planned to come back.

"And then one day, we were on our last pitch. We were about to say to Kevin Feige, 'I think we're going to walk away and we'll come back later, maybe in a couple years, when we have a better sense of things.' And Hugh happened to call me," Reynolds said.

Reynolds went on to say that this development was "kind of miraculous," and it helped convince Feige to greenlight the movie that is releasing this month. "For some reason, Kevin immediately said yes," Reynolds said.

In addition to Reynolds and Jackman, Deadpool and Wolverine features Emma Corrin as the Willy Wonka-inspired villain Cassandra Nova. The film also features a long list of familiar characters in cameo roles, but Taylor Swift will not show up as Dazzler.
