Martin Scorsese's The Irishman might have been one of the most expensive movies ever produced by Netflix, but the legendary director is setting up a long-term relationship with its streaming rival Apple. Not only is Apple producing Scorsese's next movie, Killers of the Flower Moon, it's now been reported that he has signed a new deal with the tech giant.

According to Variety, Martin Scorsese and his production company Sikelia Productions have signed a first-look film and TV deal with Apple. This doesn't mean that everything Scorsese brings to Apple will get made, but it looks likely that we will see a number of future projects from the filmmaker released onto Apple TV+.

Now Playing: The Irishman - Date Announcement Official Trailer | Martin Scorsese

Killers of the Flower Moon is a historical crime drama starring Scorsese regulars Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro. It was originally due to start production in March, but was delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The film will now start shooting in February 2021. The project reportedly carries a hefty $215 million price tag--Apple will finance the film, while Paramount will distribute it.

Apple TV+ launched in November 2019 and continues to increase its output of original movies and TV. It recently released the war drama Greyhound, which stars Tom Hanks and was originally set to be released theatrically by Sony. Apple also recently revealed the first trailer for the lavish sci-fi drama Foundation, which will be released in 2021, and paid $25 million for a Billie Eilish documentary set to air sometime later this year.
