Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter.

Luke Skywalker actor Mark Hamill has responded to the news that his on-screen sister, Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia, will be brought back to the series posthumously with unused footage. He called the plan "bittersweet" but gave thanks to the fans for their support. Spoilers for The Last Jedi follow.

"It's bittersweet facing my final chapter without her," he wrote on Twitter. "She is simply irreplaceable. I'm finding solace in the fact that she won't BE replaced & would love the worldwide outpouring of affection from those who loved her when they heard the news." The tweet included images of the two together from their time on-set during The Last Jedi and the classic trilogy.

The casting for the untitled Episode IX was recently announced, and included Fisher's name in the credits. Director JJ Abrams said they will utilize unused footage that was shot for Episode VII to bring the character back and honor her legacy.

The rest of the cast includes the expected returning players, like Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, and Kelly Marie Tran. Hamill will be returning as well, despite his character's apparent death in The Last Jedi. Billy Dee Williams will be coming back for the first time since 1983 to reprise his role as Lando. Newcomers include Naomi Ackie (Lady Macbeth) and Richard E. Grant (Logan).

Star Wars: Episode IX will release December 20, 2019.

I won't be seeing this in theaters. That last SJW hamfisted idiotic movie was so bad I have NO faith in anything Disney does with this franchise.

@Utnayan: I agree with you. TLJ makes me depressed. It was the most horrible movie I've seen in recent times.

@drsw36: No. Having it hamfisted in a universe where one of the major characters and heroes (Poe) who gets turned into a little slapped up nobody which doesn't advance the plot, or do anything for the story, does. Let me guess, you also liked that horrid last Ghostbusters movie too didn't you. Your definition of "Powerful Women" in this instance is hilarious by the way.

@drsw36: I don't think the Last Jedi was a bad movie because it had "powerful women" in it. They could have made every woman a cool dude with sweet hair and it wouldn't have helped that movie very much. The Last Jedi was just a mess. : \

@Mogan: "Powerful Women" being defined as baseless characters who slap around a guy and treat him like he is 2 years old. If they want powerful women in the series, please do. Let's actually have them be powerful women who provide great character pieces to plot advancement.

@leviathanxx@Mogan@drsw36@MadCat221: Yeah i think the main problem of TLJ it's what they did to Luke Slywalker character. It also seems that this new trilogy has undone all the good things that the character had done in the old movies. The republic was crushed, AGAIN, the new jedis were killed AGAIN, and the good guys are outnumbered and part of a rebellion AGAIN. It's the same all over again, and it seems that at the end Luke,Han Leia adn the others didn't achieve a thing.
